Beeps and overload light flashes

I left town and returned to find the APC xs 900 sounding a steady beep and the overload light flashing on the unit. It was not doing that before I left. Only 2 devices plugged into the unitl (PC and monitor). I reset by turning the power button off and then on again. The "online" light blinks for a moment, then the "on battery" light blinks for a moment and goes back to the online light staying on. After about 1 minute the overload light comes on and the unit beeps a constant beep.

1. Four beeps every 30seconds (On Battery LED will be illuminated)
This alarm indicates that the Battery PowerSupplied outlets are now supplying battery power as opposed to power from theutility. If the UPS determines that the input utility power is unsafe for yourcomputer equipment, the UPS will switch to battery power.

APC XS 1000 UPS battery back up beeps three times every minute. "see manual" "AVR" flash in screen.

It is SUPPOSED to beep during battery supply power.

It drove me nuts,too!

I know it's running off of the battery!!!!!!

I have APC 550 and a 750. Both do it.
Not anymore.

I took it apart and mangled the beeper, inside.I used a dental pick and poked the diaphram inside of it.(power off)
Clicks,but no BEEP!

Barely audible,now. Done.

I have an APC XS 900 for about 1 1/2 now. I started getting a continuous beep with the overload light turning on. I could not get it to stop, even when the computer was disconnected. After reading the...

You need to reset the unit to recognize the new battery, I had same problem with one apc smart ups on the bench the other day.

On ours we had to turn off the unit unplug the battery wait 5mins

press the on key and hold for 20secs

reconnect battery

plug in to mains

and start as normal. We did this but still had very low battery time and the flashing lights, so we disconnected the comms interface, that sovled the problem.

It may work for your unit, suggest you check the manual before you try if you are unsure

Hope this helps

Infinit loo between online and on battery?

With all 5 units behaving the same, I would expect that the power is still out of range. If the power is too high or too low (see manual for thresholds) the unit will stay on battery power to protect the attached equipment. If you have the software loaded, it will show you what the input AC voltage is at. Otherwise, it could be time for new batteries: http://batteryinternational.com/apc-smartups-1000-ups-battery-ups-batteries-f2.html

Tone alarm goes off and flashes "overload" and on the back "building wireing fault" is lit up

The "Overload" light and alarm is to tell you that the devices connected to the UPS are drawing more current than the UPS can safely provide with battery backup. You should disconnect a few items, and the alarm and overload light will turn off. The "Building wiring fault" light on the back is to tell you that there's no proper ground wire inside the wall outlet that you're using. These two problems are not related to each other.

Have brand new APC 900 UPS and when plugged in, both green & yellow indicator lights flash. Non-stop. Left unit plugged in for 18 hours (off) to charge battery as info sheet suggested, but lights still...

Nope! The internal battery is not plugged-in correctly. Unplug the APC unit and open the access door to the battery (it is not dangerous to do).
Re-seat the two wire clips (red & black) to the battery. The positive post has a red mark on it.
Close it up and charge for a few hours before using.

If the symptoms continue, return unit to store.

Overload light lights and unit beeps. It is not pluged into power and nothing is pluged into the unit.

It sounds like the battery is compatible with the ups.
However, APC has excellent free phone support.
I recommend that you give them a call.
Be ready to give them the model number and serial number for your UPS.

Ran for about 15 minutes. Hooked up to one

Ether the unit is overloaded or the internal battery is given out, or the overload circuit has failed there are only 3 problems that it could be. Not to go to much in depth on this unit APC does have a garentee and I trust you will call them and tell them this exact same issue if they find the unit is faulty they will replace it even though it may be out of warrenty if you get them on the phone and explain to them they will help I know a Greg over there.
