RE: refrigerator motherboard Has anyone addressed the heat of the motherboard causing defects because there is a solid metal cover over the motherboard and nothing to let heat out or to cool such as are necessary for computers... heat being the worst thing for such electronics...SO, CAN I REMOVE THE COVER TO LET IT COOL BETTER?

Depends on some conditions.

Is the purpose of the metal cover to;

Prevent Dust Build up? - This can cause a short if there is a lot of dust on any "Motherboard" surface.

Prevent Water from hitting the board? - This will short most electronics.

Prevent little fingers from electrocution? - This would be for safety.

Is the Metal Cover made of a metal the dissipates heat? - This would be ideal. Some metals even though they may not seem effective and draw heat from objects rather then circulate air through the objects.

These are all valid reason to protect a motherboard as to the validity, that was up to the engineers. If you can contact the manufacturing company and speak to one of them, that would be your best bet to get a definitive answer.

Hello,
Insufficient cooling is a fridge repair job that you can do without the help of a professional. Often the fridge has a frost-free failure, or the compressor is faulty but there are many other reasons for a fridge not cooling properly. Step 1 – Find the Problem
Your first job is to locate the source of the problem. Consider each of the following:
* Gaskets - Make sure the gaskets/seals are not torn and are sealing properly. * Evaporator fan – Make sure it is working. If it is now working you may have a problem with the fan motor. Check for power to the motor and also examine the fan switches around the door (not all fridges have these switches). * Air damper – Sometimes the air damper will not open up to allow the cold air from the freezer part to blow into the fridge section. * Condenser coils – Check to see that the condenser coils don’t have a dust build-up and that the condenser motor is working. * Compressor – Make sure your compressor is working with on and off clicking noises.
Thanks for using fixya

Circut breaker goes out on my refrig.

Do you have other appliance or other things on the same circuit? If not your refrigerator compressor may be shorting to ground causing the breaker to trip. Test the compressor with instructions below. Unplug the refrigerator and remove the back panel that covers the compressor. There should be 3 wires going inside the cover of the compressor. Mark all 3 and mark their location so if compressor is OK you can put them back in same order. The plastic cover may snap on and you may need to squeeze the sides to unlock the cover and sometimes there is a metal clip holding the cover in place. Remove the cover. May look hard but it's simple. There will be three connections under the cover and 2 will go through the start relay. Unplug them leaving the three prongs exposed. They may be marked R =Run, S=Start and C=Common. Set your meter on continuity and then begin by testing 2 at a time until you have checked S to R and R to C an C to S and S to R again. You should get a reading all the way around. If no reading between any of the pairs as you go around you should get no reading between any two the compressor has an open winding and is defective. Then if it passes that test then touch one probe to R and the other to the copper pipes or clean metal on outside of compressor, then S to metal outside and C to metal outside. If you get a reading this way even just a little. The compressor is a burnout. Then let me know what you find. Thanks, Sea Breeze

This sounds like the compressor is not running. Causes for this happening on your model can be caused by defective start relay, run capacitor, defective fan motor and defective motherboard. The part number for the motherboard is WR55X10942

The repair is rather complex for most people on your model and I will be glad to go through how to do this if you like. Let me know and I will walk you through the repair, Thanks

Compressor short cycles

What is your model number. When a compressor short cycles it is most time caused by a start relay, start or run capacitor and a defective external overload.

Testing the compressor is also recommended before purchasing parts. Leaving the compressor running while it short cycles can also cause the internal overload damage because the compressor overheats while short cycling. Testing a compressor is like this test below.Unplug the refrigerator and remove the back panel that covers the compressor. There should be 3 wires going inside the cover of the compressor. Would the defrost timer cause the fridge not to cool

In one post you saud the fans run but not the compressor. I believe that either the compressor sart relay, overload and run capacitor are the most likely problem causing the compressor to not run. Hi, my GE refrigerator has ice developing on the rear wall of the freezer, and things in my crisper drawer are freezing solid, please help!!!!

Unplug refrig. Empty all food from freezer side and remove shelves from freezer. Remove back metal cover from inside freezer. Melt frost with a hair blower. Examine defrost heater at very bottom of the coils you defrosted. If heater coil inside glass tube is broken, replace defrost heater. (note: replacement may look different, but insturctions included with replacement address that) If heater is not broken, replace the small white pencil shapped sensor at the top of the cooling coils.

Refrigerator stopped cooling

My guess is that you have a defective defrost timer.

Most refrigerator operate on a 24-hour self-defrost cycle. It takes about 1/2 hour to complete. During that time, a timer shuts down the compressor, turns on a heater imbedded or surrounding the cooling coils, and melts any ice that has formed.

It then turns the refrigerator back on to resume its normal cycle. This happens once every 24 hours.

You might have a bad heater coil, but far more likely is the defrost timer. It's usually at the bottom of the refrigerator... A small black phonelic box with wires going into it.

While you've got the inside disassembled, you might want to check the heating coil, but my guess is that it's good. More often the not, the culprit is the self-defrost timer which is usually located under the refrigerator.

Newer models have solid state controls and sometimes have the defrost timer integrated into the circuit board, but some still have a separate defrost timer. I'd bet my reputation that's your problem.

Yes ill be glad to help John. Your refrigerant level is fine. Remove the motherboard axcess panel on rear of refrig. Locate 3 wire blue plastic connector on bottom of board. Wires are labeled Comp, Line, Def. Jump Line to Def and see if heater gets hot. If nothing happens than replace the heater. Let me know what happens.
