SOURCE: canon bjc-80 - no print appears but cartridge & paper move normally

I had this problem too. It turned out there was old dry ink in there clogging up the printerhead and it was fixed after I ran the cleaning programme several times. However I can't for the lifeof me remember how to do that now. I know I found it online but it has since vanished. Maybe check your manual?

Error light flashes and cartridge won't center

Hi,

Canon printers are well known for this as it could be caused by the ink tank being full. Check the manual.
The ink tank is a thick pad of felt in the bottom of the printer and every time you clean the cartridges a small amount of ink is squirted in to the tank. It soon gets full.
Have a look at http://canonhelp.freehttp.com/

I have stripped my BJC 1000 printer down, washed out and dried the felt pad, replaced it, re-set the electrics as described on the above site and all is well now.
You may need help stripping the printer down as it may be held together by only two or three screws and plastic spring clips.
A firm could charge you £40 plus carriage for the repair but it can be done at home if you take your time and get some mechanical help.

Best of luck.

Keeps telling me the following ink tank is not installed - color ink tank It is installed and i have replaced it with a new one

That printer has a little switch on the carriage assembly that is made when the ink is put in. It's a tiny switch easily broken, and you have to replace the carriage assembly if it's broken. Make sure you place the ink in properly, the right side goes in under the ledge and then press down the left side.

Canon bjc 80 8 beeps error

8 beeps is a printhead error meaning you need to replace the printhead and not just the ink.

No yellow printing from my color cartridges

The nozzles that the yellow ink flows thru are clogged. Try the print head cleaning utility. Right click on the printer, select PROPERTIES, select the MAINTENANCE TAB and press the PRINTHEAD CLEANING button. If that doesnt work, turn off printer, open front cover and move the ink carriage toward the center. You should see a small rectangular cotton sponge pad thats covered with old inks. Put several drops of Windex on it so that its nicely soaked and return ink carriage. Turn on printer and run the print head cleaning utility again. Then let it sit overnight. The next day, try printing a test page.

Cartridge recommendations

You can purchase Canon cartridges directly from Canon here. The BC-10 is a cartridge that prints with black ink only. The BCI-10 is the replacement ink tank for this cartridge (a new cartridge comes complete with an ink tank). The BC-11e is a cartridge that prints both black and color, and has two ink tanks, the BCI-11 black and BCI-11 color. A new BC-11e cartridge comes complete with two new ink tanks.

BJC-80 - Wont' print

Look on eBay for printhead or cartridge cleaning solution. The cartridge is clogged with dried ink. Take an empty ink tank, and drip cleaning solution onto the sponge, filling the cartridge part way. Install the cleaning cartridge in the printer, and leave it over night. Run cleaning cycle the next day, and print with the same cartridge. It should start printing. Install new ink cartridge.
With the BJCs, if the cartridge is defective electrically, the printer will have an error and usually 3 beeps, it will not try to print.

Canon BJC 80 Printer

Try cleaning off the contacts on the ink carriage with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. The part that connects to the copper contacts on the printhead. You can't harm them by cleaning this way. And the alcohol evaporates pretty quick. Canon ink is 65% alcohol and this dissolves and cleans off ink residue on any part of the printer. Sometimes these contacts get dirty over time and won't read print heads installed any more. This fixes about half the printers like this I have problems with.

If cleaning doesn't help, and a new print head won't work, then the only fix is to replace the ink tank carriage assembly.

Printer won't print

I have had a similar problem to this: I have had a BJC 80 for nearly 5 years and carried it around with my laptop using Win 98 and a par - par cable. It worked beautifully and successfully - so much so that when i saw a number of ink tanks going at very cheap volume prices in PC World i picked up a lot of them. Changing to an XP meant that i had to keep on using the par to par cable via a docking station but prevented my use of it with my new laptop - so when i brought it out of retirement it gave the blank printing problems yoiu described. By checking some error messages that it expected a black cartridge (which is what was installed) i found that inthe setup the software indicated it defaulted to colour cartridges. By changing this on the computer, it still printed blank pages but by changing the cartridge to colour it sprang into life when the set up asked for colour. I tried 2 other print heads which i had (3-4 years old) but still blank paper when printing to a black cartridge. I am now awaiting a new black print head carrier to see if it makes a difference. When trying with my laptop using XP and a par - usb cable it does not work at all. I have removed the sware driver for the Canon 80 and manually installed the one for the Canon 85 but no luck in printing to par - usb at this time
