Two major points - it is unusual for lower end printers and domestic routers to link to each other. You normally have to plug the printer into the computer to get it to load the drivers initially and then operate wirelessly after the relevant parameters have been set.
Alternatively the wireless settings have not been put into the printer correctly and it therefore cannot be seen on the network.
The usual configuration for a wireless printer is that it is wirelessly linked to the router, which enables all other items connected to the router, wirelessly or hardwired, to access the printer.
Often printers have to be connected directly to the computer for the drivers to be loaded but this is less necessary on modern printers as the drivers are loaded onto the computer without the printer attached and the setup programme looks for, finds (hopefully), and then sets up the wireless parameters for the printer.

Try plugging the cable into your PC USB port. If the printer stays offline, restart the computer.

SOURCE: my canon mx340 will not

Is the Printer switched on? Do you have enough rights to use the printer wirelessly? Have you printed documents over your wireless connection previously?

Why won't my canon mx340 usb cable does not fit into d-link router

There is no need to use USB cable to connect MX340 to a wireless router.
If you don't want to use the printer as wireless, plug the printer cable directly into your PC USB port.

Printer reading offline

The printer connects via a radio link which may have a weak signal, or the card may fail. It could be the computer which has lost the connection. Try closing down the computer, then re-booting. If the printer is soe distance away, try moving it closer.

I have A Canon MX410 printer and is showing message offline and I have unplugged and plugged the printer. I have a Mac Mini and it worked fine for awhile. What to do??? Thanks Rick

Is the Pixma connected to a wireless router (or connected by USB or ethernet cable)? It could be that the router connection failed. Try restarting the router, or repeat wireless connection on the Pixma.

As long as i have my usb cable hooked up to my printer and laptop it works but when i disconnect the cord its offline.what should i do?

It may not be configured to the correct port. The port selected could have been the USB port that's why when you disconnect the USB cable printer goes offline and would not print wireless. Follow the steps below if you are using a WINDOWS computer: For windows XP :
  • Click on start then go to printers and faxes.
  • right-click on the default printer canon pixma mx340 series
  • go down to properties
  • click the ports tab
  • check to see which box is checked. If the usb port box is checked, that answers the reason why printer goes offline and would not print wireless when USB cable is disconnected.
  • In the list of ports ,look for tcp/ip with the correct ip (192 number) address of the computer.
  • when you find it,tick the box, click on apply then ok.
  • if you do not see it anywhere on the list ,you need install the software.
For win vista
  • click on start,in the search box key in printer then hit enter on the keyboard
For win 7
  • click on start,in the search box put in devices and printers and hit enter
  • right-click on the default printer canon pixma mx340 series
  • click on printer properties
  • check to see which box is checked. If the usb port box is checked, that answers the reason why printer goes offline and would not print wireless when USB cable is disconnected.

Let me know if you need assistance in configuring wireless connection and installation.
