The instruction manual from the HP site will show you how to check the ink levels. But first you need to have the HP Printer software installed on your PC.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03333598.pdf

You can download and install the driver from this site. The instructions on how to install will be there once you select the Operating system (Windows, etc) of your PC.

SOURCE: HP Deskjet F4280 Ink Level

Hi,
when you refill the cardtridge, you can not reset the ink level... because refilling doesn't show the ink levels.. you no need to worry. if ink is there in the carttridge it will print...
Shouldn't worry about it. They are only a rough guide. The only time to worry about it is when the printer stops working and it has told you it's run out of ink! Thank you.......

SOURCE: I used to refill the ink cartridge of HP Deskjet D1460 by injecting ink. The problem is the level of ink is not resetted to full level, its still very low level. However, the printer prints normally

Close the top left pin at head contactor (1 pin only), with tape. Plug it in head carriage. Unplug it. Close to top rigtht with tape too. Plug the head. Unplug head. Remove all the tape cleanly. Plug again. See ink monitor.

SOURCE: How do I reset the ink levels on a HP Deskjet

First try the information below

Check that you removed the protective tape. some cartridges have two of these pieces of tape one over the head and possibly on on the contacts to the printer.

If you recently re-filled or had the cartridge refilled or even bought one of the many cheaper replacement cartridges you should read on

Most modern cartridges have an ink level chip built on to them.
Should the level drop below 25% then most of these chips lock up and will not reset.

Re-filling them will have no effect

If you are lucky you should be able to find either a chip resetter around on the INTERNET or maybe even local

OR

Even better empty cartridges that never need to be reset.
The second option is my preference

I realise these are not for your specific printer but there are others listed on both those sites as well.

cheaper cartridge problems have been on the rise recently and that is for ALL makes of printer.

Printhead moves but does not print

If the HP 56, 57 or 58 ink cartridge refuses to print or function at all (i.e. blinking ink light on Deskjet 5000, 5100, 5500, 5600 or 5800 series printer) or fails to complete the printer alignment following cartridge installation, then the ink cartridge either has a connectivity issue with the flexible printed circuit cable (inside unit where cartridge mates with cable), the rear cartridge contacts or cable contacts are dirty with ink residue, or the cartridge is suffering from marginal internal electrical performance. It is suggested you perform the TAP 43 (and TAP 10) DIAGNOSTIC PRINTER TEST to evaluate the ink cartridges electrical performance. Visit Inkjet411 support site to see instructional video: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=2358

To clean the HP 56, 57 or 58 ink cartridges please visit the Inkjet411 site which provides recommendations on how to clean the electrical contacts, flex driver cables and how to perform a hot water flush of the cartridge nozzle plate (refer to video): http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1519

Also, verify the top cover is closing properly (it has an interlock). If necessary create a small shim and press into the top-right port to close the switch (i.e. use a piece of cardboard or fold a post-it note 10x to form a small/hard shim about 1/4 inch by 1 inch in size). This should allow the printer to properly energize and the blinking lights should go away.
NOTE: For the HP Deskjet 5000 series printer models, when you get an HP 56, 57 or 58 integrated ink cartridge refilled (i.e. currently offered at Costco or Frys today) or if you buy a remanufactured/compatible HP ink cartridge, the ink levels are not initially reset. However, continuing to use an ink cartridge which displays LOW INK alerts is permitted by the printer, simply select OK, CONTINUE or DISMISS when these alerts are observed. Now, it is possible to reset the ink levels by performing the procedure outlined on Inkjet411's site: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1915

HP Deskjet 5150 poor print quality

For poor printing problems I suggest you run the Tap 10 diagnostic print test (see link to video below).
If the new (or refilled/reman/compatible) HP 56, 57 or 58 ink cartridge refuses to print black/color and/or function at all (i.e. blinking ink light on Deskjet 5000 series printer) or fails to complete the printer alignment following cartridge installation, then the ink cartridge either has a connectivity issue with the flexible printed circuit cable (inside unit where cartridge mates with cable), the rear cartridge contacts or cable contacts are dirty with ink residue, or the cartridge is suffering from marginal internal electrical performance. HP DESKJET 5600 ENCOUNTERED ERROR WHEN POWERED ON

If the new (or refilled/reman/compatible) HP 56, 57 or 58 ink cartridge refuses to print black/color and/or fails to function at all (i.e. blinking ink lights on Deskjet 5000, 5100, 5500, 5600 or 5800 series printers) or fails to complete the printer alignment following cartridge installation, then the ink cartridge either has a connectivity issue with the flexible printed circuit cable (inside unit where cartridge mates with cable), the rear cartridge contacts or cable contacts are dirty with ink residue, or the cartridge is suffering from marginal internal electrical performance. Also verify that the cover interlock switch (at top-right side of printer) is closing properly - you may need to place a thick shim (1/4 inch by 1 inch) into the door switch port to enable printer to properly energize (I would check this first). This Deskjet printer series is known to have a top cover closing issue (the top covers warp over time unfortunately).

Will HP 60 ink cartridge work with HP Deskjet 2460? Tnx.

This is all HP recommends for the HP Deskjet 2460, so I wouldn't suggest buying anything else. First of all it might not fit and second, even if it fits, other issues may come with using those. If you can't see the list here it is:

How do you check the ink levels of the cartridges on a hp deskjet 940c

Hi,
If the ink level is low in a print cartridge, the Print Cartridge Status light stops flashing when the printer’s top cover is opened. When you open the panel the ink cartridges slide to the center , as far as checking the ink level find and right click on the printer icon, click properties, and find ink cartridges and ink levels.
Thanks

Ink level didn't change

s.gif Deskjet 5100 series
  1. Click Start or c01319360.gif , click All Programs , click Hewlett-Packard , and then click Printer Assistant .
  2. Click Utilities .
  3. Click View ink levels .
    • If a cartridge is low on ink, discontinue these steps, replace the cartridge, and then try printing again.
    • If the cartridges contain a sufficient amount of ink, continue to the next step.
  4. Click Printer Maintenance .
  5. Click Clean Cartridges .
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.
ISSUE: After installing a new HP Inkjet print cartridge, the ink level indicator remains at the previous level. SOLUTION: Continue to print and ignore the ink level indicator. The print cartridge is full of ink, it just is not being measured accurately.
