Sounds like you need a new battery. it wont hold a charge over night. check the battery voltage after it sits over night. it should have approx 13.5 volts. make sure nothing is staying on, like the trunk light. you can have the battery load tested, some parts stores can check this for you.
During the night or after the car sets for a while. The battery voltage will drop from the normal 13.6 to 13.8 volts when running and Charging, to between 12.3 to 12.6 volts. If the Crank Sensor is going bad, it may not operate correctly with the lower voltage. Check your Battery Voltage in the morning with a Volt Meter. If the Battery Voltage is lower than about 12.3 to 12.5 volts. You may need a new battery. Try leaving the battery on a low current Battery Maintainer overnight and see if it starts in the morning. I have seen many cars that shut down with Low Battery Voltage. Darn these New Fangled Cars and their Computers! FYI, we have never seen a Crank Sensor fail in this manner..... Check the RESTING Battery Voltage.
I am back again. My car has not been started since 7:00 AM or almost 12 Hours. The resting Battery Voltage measured with my $300.00 plus Fluke Meter shows the Voltage to be 12.6 Volts. My battery is less than 3 months old. You may have a Bad Battery and I would bet that you do. BUT! Don't expect the Resting Voltage of you Cars Lead-Acid Battery to be 13 volt anything. I don't know about the New Spiral Wound Miracle Batteries but a Standard 12 Volt Battery will Normalize to rest at about 12.3 to 12.7 Volts. No Brag JUST FACT!

yeah, well u need to get your facts straight. i have worked in one of the largest battery warehouses on the west cost. i have checked and charged thousands of batteries. i dont know how much our meters cost, dosnt really matter. i just checked two batteries that have been sitting for months. 13.6 volts if your battery drops below that at rest you should check for deviation of the cells. even a new battery can have problems
Hello Mike, The wifes 2014 Chrysler Caravan reads 13.1 volts this morning. My Grocery Getter which is a 1993 Ford Festive reads 12.56 volts. And the PT Cruiser reads 12.78 volts. We have used the Fluke Model 75, Radio Shack ( medium price ) and the Cheapest Chinese Discount Meter ( belongs to my neighbor ) And they all read to within 2 tenths of a volt. I am also a Ham Radio Operator with 2000 Watts of Solar Cells which Charge 3 135 Amp Hour Batteries for Emergency Back-up to power my Radios in an Emergency. It has been calculated that we could run at 50/50 transmit and receive for a week before a recharge was absolutely needed. We have checked their status also. At less than 5 months old, All 3 of these Batteries will Stabalise at around 12.96 volts after One Hour and 12.87 volts after 5 hours. This is of course after their Surface Charge is lost. My Larger Batteries for Ham Radio sell for over $300.00 each and carry a Ten Year Rating. My education includes Degrees in Broadcast and Electronics Engineering. The Ham Radio License is the FCC Extra Class. And I am 60 years old with 45 years of experience with Batteries. Here is a small fact for you. In the early days, placing a battery on a Concrete Floor would cause it to Discharge. The Battery Cases were made of Hard and Porus Rubber. Todays batteries are made from PVC which is Non Porus. They will no longer self discharge while setting on Concrete Floors. My friend, the only advise we can give you is to check the Voltage Meter you are using. And to the fellow with a No Start Problem, The Electronics in todays Cars is very voltage sensitive. Just because the Starter Motor will Crank the Car. That does not mean that Under Load, the battery has enough Voltage to run the various Electronic Systems needed to start your car. I am finished on this subject. And there is a reason that my nickname is DOC.... Wade.

SOURCE: it just started cranking over
Sounds like your vehicle could be off time. Check your timing marks on your vehicle for the specs. Hope this helps, James Booth
SOURCE: 2001 dodge dakota wont crank
Your Dodge could fail to start for a number of reasons, trial and error approach could be costly so before throwing more parts at the problem i would suggest you have a proper diagnostics test done , the cause could be as simple as a corroded wire connection , let us know what codes were retrieved and we can guide you from there .
Kind regards
