SOURCE: loose door handle

DON'T remove the cover yourself unless you fully undertand the SAFETY issues involved in working inside a microwave oven. A microwave oven is possibly THE MOST DANGEROUS common consumer product to service. Usually with these doors, the latching parts tend to loosen up at times, thus requiring some re-adjustment and tightening. Sometimes they get a bit warn and require to be replaced. The handle by itself about $40, apparently GE doesn't know how to make a door handle that will hold up for more than a year or so. I just bought a new door off of eBay for $20 + $20 shipping ... a deal compared to the $135 + tax and shipping that most of the web sites want! All you need is a phillips screwdriver and a 5/16" socket. To get to 3 screws that anchor the TOP hinge, simply remove the vent grill (open the door and remove the 2 white screws that hold it in place). To get to the 2 screws that anchor the BOTTOM hinge, simply remove the 6 screws that hold the grey bottom pan of the microwave in place. The pan will swivel down, remaining attached in the back panel. Once you've removed the 5 hinge screws, the door should pull pretty much straight out. Reverse the procedure with the new door, which should come with hinges attached. Could be that the place the spring sits in is a little broken, so theres no stop for the spring. open it up and see if there's anything you can do with it, try some epoxy putty maybe. Good luck

SOURCE: GE Spacemaker Microwave Handle Replacement

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

You may consider using epoxy to "glue" the handle back into place. The epoxy will be stronger than the handle itself. If you do this get the one minute epoxy

Where do I find instructions for replacing the door handles on the built in microwaves?

I do not think you will find directions for this task. Microwaves are not intended to be user serviceable...But, you just need to take the door apart in an orderly fashion, and force nothing.

I NEED DIRECTIONS TO REPLACE THE DOOR HANDLE ON MY MICROWAVE OVEN, PLEASE

The door handle can easily be replaced on MOST microwave ovens by removing the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. The following link explains how to access and replace the door handle:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3696942-microwave_oven_door_handle_replacement

The average cost for a replacement handle (if required) usually runs about $20 - $40. Replacements may be purchased at the websites listed in the link I provided. Several of these sites also have helpful exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with parts identification and how disasemble/reassemble your appliance. If you haven't purchased a new handle yet, the part number is 8184264.

The door handle is a simple repair that can be done with the door in place, or with the door removed. You do not have to uninstall the oven if this is an over the range model.

NOTE: If you wish to remove the door, all you need to do on most models is open the door all the way and lift straight up at the hinges. You may have to remove the grille cover located above the door on some models to accommodate being able to lift the door.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

My handle door is broken.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. There are 4 different doors for this microwave see this link:

http://specsserver.com/CACHE/FRJVHRUTDMYQ.PDF

Item 58 is the door handle

Part numbers are:

5304440323 - - - - Handle, door, black

5304440325 - - - - Handle, door, bisque
5304440324 - - - - Handle, door, white
Stainless handle not listed.. I assume it is a black handle

This has to be one of the more expensive microwave door handles I have ever experienced.

The least expensive source I found was at sears parts direct.
5304440324 Handle door white Price $88.80
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/5304440324/0022/628?pathTaken=partSearch&filterPart=&pop=flush

5304440323 Handle door black Price $98.97
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/5304440323/0022/628?pathTaken=partSearch&filterPart=&pop=flush

5304440325 Handle door bisque Price $88.80
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/5304440325/0022/628?pathTaken=partSearch&filterPart=&pop=flush

Note that Item 51 of the first link (top one) is the complete door assy. Also Item 60 is the door HANDLE screws (2 ea)

Just from looking at the diagrams in the first link, it appears item 56
Frame, choke cover, inner door
must be removed to gain access to the handle screws.

I looked up many sources for the handle assembly because I had a hard time believeing the handle was so expensive. Sears was by far the cheapest source.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

I need to replace just the door handle on a Maytag Microwave (Model No. MMV4205BAS). All I've seen online for parts is a complete new door for anywhere from $220 to $300. Surely there is a cheaper...

The handles run about $25-35 here.

Here are the part numbers & descriptions:

W10279351 Black handle
W10279353 White handle
W10279355 Bisque handle

My samsung SMH7187STG microwave handle broke off.

You can order new "cap handles" (the plastic parts that join the aluminum handle to the door for 3.99 each plus 8.99 shipping and handling at the Sears Parts Direct Website. The part number is DE67-00222C. When you have the parts in hand, open the microwave oven door. On the inside surface of the door their is a black plastic frame around the door that pops off easily (gently use a screw driver to pry up the door frame) so that you can have access to the screws that attach the end caps to the door. You will need to hold the remant of the cap handle (the part that is probably broken off even with the glass surface on the outside side of the door) still while you unscrew the screws. Once the screws and broken remnant of the handle caps are out, you are ready to put new handle caps on the handle, then put the handle with the new handle caps on the door. By the way, Samsung was absolutely NO help with this. The agent I chatted with denied that their were any reports of the handles breaking off, so I had to cut and past the postings about the door handle breaking off ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE under "Community Q and A" into the chat box -- still the agent did not acknowldege the existance of these reports...or the possibility of a poor design. I asked for them to send me a couple of the $4 parts as a good will gesture....got nothing but lofty words about Samsung commitment etc. and only a authorized technition blah blah, no action. All you need is a strong thumbnail, a phillips head screw driver, new handle caps.
