When turned on it has a green light for about 8 seconds, then the bin full light comes on. While the green light is on it works fine (about one sheet).
Do you think the "full" sensor is dead, broken, burned out?
where can I buy one of these sensors to fix it?
thanks,
-Linda
An update ... SB-85C with the same problem.
Called customer service and they were very helpful. They will need all of the information that is on the tag on the bottom of the power head. It will then cost you a little less than 10 bucks - including postage - for the new sensors.
Also ask them to email you the "Instructions for PC Board Replacement: SB-80, SB-85C, SB15C, & SB-87Cs". It is a four page color PDF that gives all the details any "handyman\mechanic" would need to get it apart without breaking anything important.
To follow up my 12/9/2007 post, Fellows got back to me. I emailed
them the serial number and some other info and they sent me a
replacement wire harness with 2 new sensors attached, free
of charge. The replacement process was straightforward but
not trivial. If you work on cars or are comfortable taking things
apart and reassembling, you should have no problems.
The gear assembly needs to be lifted in order to replace the old wire
harness. It is heavy and greasy. Don't get grease on new sensors.
I had to cut a couple of tie wraps holding the old harness in
place. I did not have tie wraps to replace them, so I used twist
ties from a box of plastic bags.
I am delighted with Fellows for taking care of this for free without
forcing me to ship the shredder someplace for servicing.

Hi, I am having the exact same problem with my SB-87Cs. It may not be the exat same model but the pics look identical. Any help here would be greatly appreciated, this is just so frusterating.
Thanks in advance!
Jon
I have the same problem with my SB-85C. I researched it a while ago.
You can try cleaning the transmit and receive glass "eyes" located behind
the plastic swiveling plate that hangs down near where the paper exits.
When working properly, the paper fills and pushes against the plastic plate
which swivels and cuts the infrared or laser beam between the glass eyes.
If dirty, the beam will become very sensitive and trip prematurely.
My problem is more severe. Cleaning no longer helps. There is an FAQ at
Fellows website that allows you to submit a request to the servicing group.
I just submitted a request for a replacement paper full sensor. I'm not sure if
they will send me one or not. I really don't want to have to pay to ship the
unit and have it serviced.
