Sometimes a dvd can be ejected manually but mostly the unit must be partially dismantled but if you try to do that you will invalidate the warranty - at only 5 months old it will be the responsibility of the supplier/retailer to cure the problem. I suggest you re-read the instructions and then contact the supplier without delay.
Then you should contact the dvd rental company and tell them what is happening.
