I have the same problem. Actually the system stop working about 3 months after the 1 year warranty expired.

No help form Panasonic customer service. I took it to a service center for an estimate........about $350 to fix it.

I'm just going to buy a new system...but not Panasonic.

No more Panasonic in my house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have a sa-ht733 displays init when on button is push on and stay like that forever.any help?

  • 8acidman8 Aug 23, 2008

Same problem as the others. Player doesn't work and displays INIT. No help from Panasonic. However, after reading about others who got repair quotes that were close to or equal to the cost I decided there was no risk in giving it a shot myself. There are two screws on each side and three on the back. Remove these and pop the top. Remove any stuck disk and then plug it in to see if the drawer will open. mine did. I then plugged it in with the cover still off, inserted a CD, and I'm listening to music as I write this. Good luck to all.

I have a panasonic sc-ht730 and everytime I try to watch a dvd it will play for a little while and then freeze up. I have tried it over and over and it freezes up at different times but always toward the first of the dvd. Thanks if anyone could help me with this problem.

Fixed Mine!!!!

My Home theatre started to do the same thing today and I manged to get it going again by reseting the ratings password and changing the batteries in my remote. Oddly enough, I have never set a ratings password so I suspect the batteries caused the issue. Seems to be back to normal. Instructions for the reset are in the manual. Here's a link to the online one at Panasonics website http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/SAHT730.PDF

It would appear that I spoke too soon. The DVD player stopped working again and when I tried to reset the unit again, it went back into the INIT loop. I can't believe that Panasonic would sell a P.O.S unit that dies after 2 years of use! I now have a service manual for the unit but it pretty much says to start replacing components. I also have the firmware update CD and I’ll have a recovery CD shortly. I’d like to post them all online to see if someone can figure out what is causing this error.

SCHT730 ....Same issue as freeze up. I am replacing the flat cable that runs to the DVD optical from what I can tell trouble shooting myself there is a short in this cable. Of course the cost of service manual or someone to look at it on the bench makes it dumpster fill. This is the second in 2 years , the first right out of the box (no digital display) the second lasted 13 months with no help from Panasonic or Circuit City. My suggestion is junk and stay away from Panasonic

Tray won't open!

Hi, not being too familiar with this model ( i.e. whether a single disc or 5 disc changer). it sounds like the CD player section is trying to find home position and will not continue until it has done so. It is very likely that there is a disc in the mechanism and depending how competent you are with a screwdriver, you may be able to release the disc either by removing the top cover or check on the underside of the machineto see if there is a hole in the bottom where you can wind the cd mechanism to the eject position.

Mini Disc Not Working

Pull the power cord. Make sure the three-position switch with "REC/Standby/PLAY" is in the middle position, then plug the cord back in. Wait a minute, then press POWER. Now load a disk and wait 1 minute for it to read the Table of Contents (TOC). Either it will show the tracks, or it will say 'empty disk'. Let us know what happens from there, okay?

"LOAD" Showing on the display

Exactly the same problem myself. Try pressing open and then holding tight to a cotton bud, sweep inside the machine. The problem seems to be dust collecting. If it works then get a proper cleaning disc. My problem got so bad that the machine would spit out most discs as unable to read.
