How can I free both the stuck choke pullout lever and the on/off switch on my Poulan Pro 18" chainsaw? I tried using the start handle pull to rotate the engine, which turns normally, but switches are still stuck.

Did you mean by chance that neither will pull out?

Can you define stuck a little better, is the choke stuck on and the on/off switch stuck in on position or Vice-Versa? I have noticed on mine at times the darn thing seems real hard to pull.

To set choke which in turn sets switch to on/Run. What I found in this issue to grip blue choke lever extra firm and pull out with a quick/short tug. it sets choke and sets switch to on/run every time.
If you are saying choke is stuck at full choke and on/off switch is stuck in on/Run there is something quite bound up.
The on/off switch is only affected by choke when it is in off position and you set choke to full which in turn sets switch to on/run other wise pushing down on the switch will set it to off regardless of what the choke lever is set at.

This is a carburetor linkage problem and pulling engine though with the starter will not have any effect.

Check all the linkage at the carburetor for problems. Also try pulling the throttle trigger and may sure it operating the carburetor.

my name is Dennis Gladx and I can assist you with the problem of getting the sprocket off of the crankshaft of your chainsaw.

To remove the centrifugal clutch and sprocket you unscrew it from the crankshaft and it has a left hand thread. Also a little trick to remove anything from a crankshaft that could turn while you want to unscrew the item, Remove the spark plug and insert some rope into the cylinder for the piston to squeeze against and you will jam the piston without damage.

Glad to be of assistance Please rate this solution because I can learn from your rating. Thank you

Does the spark plug get wet with fuel when pulled through? If dry, try spraying a little starting fluid in the plug hole and reinstall the plug. If it pops at least once, you have fuel delivery problems--look for hardened/ cracked fuel lines. Clean the muffler arrestor screen. When the muffler is off, check the condition of the piston skirt and cylinder wall for deep scoring or obvious wear. Make sure the primer button (if equipped) is filling with fuel when pumped a few times. If it doesn't, make sure the bulb is not hard or cracked and check the lines going to and from it. Check the carburetor bolts and nuts for tightness. The fuel filter in the tank could be plugged, fish it out and check. If you have checked all these items, it may be time to clean and rekit the carburetor. Hope this helps!

The best thing you can do to these engines it take them completely apart - take piston out and everything. Believe it or not, my 12-year-old son was able to do it - very few parts in these little 2-stroke engines. He polished the carbon off of the piston with a drummel tool and cleaned everything with carb-cleaner. Put it back together and it ran like a champ. Still does. It was a great learning experience for him too. The worst that can happen is you have a bunch of parts that you will throw away.

How to start poulan 18 inch wildthing chainsaw

Hello Wade,
There should be starting instructions on back on saw, if not its usually the same for most saws. Fill tank with proper mixed fuel. Add bar and chain oil if necessary. Pull knob out to "start" position. Pull choke all the way out. Prime unit 6 times. Place saw firmly on floor, slide right foot under handle and have left hand firmly on top handle. Pull throttle and lock it in high. Pull rope 4 to 5 times until unit pops. Then, set chock lever on half.(this is usually pushing in half way). Pull rope again 4 to 5 times until unit starts, then after 30 seconds or so push choke knob in to turn choke off. If this procedure doesn't work, give it 10 minutes or so, because unit may be flooded, then try again. Good luck!

2nd use of chainsaw pp3516avx, it won't start, choke lever will not stay extended. I followed the instructions to start and nothing works

The choke system is connected to the half throttle position, if you lift the throttle trigger the choke pull will automatically return, whilst trying to start do not lift the throttle trigger, the starting procedure is, pump the primer bulb as many times as it takes to 3/4 fill the bulb, pull the choke pull fully out, this will switch the saw on and engage the half throttle, crank the engine until it fires once, do not continue to pull,it will actually not run on full choke, if you do continue to crank with the choke fully out, you will very quickly flood the engine, now push the choke fully in, now crank the engine until it fires up, lift the throttle trigger once, this will dissengage the half throttle, and it should now come down to idle.

Poulan chain saw. After starting, chain drive won't move

If equipped, the chain brake may be engaged. Its the lever just ahead of the fore handle. (pull back on it)

If the clutch assy. were frozen, then the chain would move all the time.

Good luck
