Change the current status counter value (08-400) to "0" To do this hold down 0 and 8 then turn the machine on. When the machine is on enter 4 0 0 then press copy start. change the value to 0 then press enter. Restart the machine.
Personally I have this problem before what I did to sort it out was to go back to the begining i.e. I first reformatted the hard drive using disk utility and then set up time machine to backup to the drive again.
