This error means "Communication between the camera and lens is faulty. Clean the lens contacts." If you are using the same lens on both cameras, the problem is with the metal contacts on the rear of the lens where it communicates with the camera body. You can gently clean these contacts by using a clean pencil eraser. Make sure you hold the lens "bottom down" as you clean it so that the eraser debris falls to the table instead of inside the lens!

I have the exact same problem, it's the aperture flex cable which have a design flaw. At 12mm the flex is stretched at maximum and over the years loses its flexibility and breaks. Mine works fine from 24 to 15mm. Below 15 the camera always reports err01. All flex cables in the tokina are welded -IMHO you need to take it to a professional.
Based on my web search for this error code, Error 01 is related to the camera's ability to communicate with the lens, and seems to be most often because the IS has failed. If your lens is still in warranty, I suggest you contact Canon service for info on where to send/take it for repair. If it is out of warranty, you could still contact them for repair. Or, check with a local Canon authorized repair shop and see what they recommend (repair or replace?).
Error 01: A communication problem between the lens and the body. Try cleaning the the area between the objective/Lens and the body. If that doesn't work, try another lens. If that doesn't work, try the first lense in another body, and if that works, it's most likely the body that's broken.
I had the Error 01 message on my 400D
I changed the support battery ( CR 2016 3 V) which is placed inside the main battery compartment.
This did the trick.
Your flex cable to the Iris is broken. Have a look at my gallery at http://www.pbase.com/barry_2718/efs1785mm I have the same symptoms. At 28 or 35mm it make work ok. try Av mode and f8 aperture to see if you get an err01 because the aperture does not move either.
It should be noted that the AF accuracy adjustment advisory is in addition to the previous EOS-1D Mark III AF mirror adjustment service notice. Free repairs are being offered for customers affected by the "Err 99" mirror problem, and Canon is also providing free AF accuracy checks and adjustments for customers experiencing problems with soft focus when using any but the central AF point.
Finally, Canon Japan has published a new manual entitled "EOS-1D Mark III AI Servo Auto Focus Manual" aimed at helping owners understand and get the most from their AF system.
The E99 message usually ends up being a shutter box that needs to be replaced. The 1D shutter box should be good for 100,000 images or more, you can probably find the estimated lifespan on Google somewhere.
If you can"t save pics to the CF card then you might have a bent or broken pin on your CF card reader. Look down into the CF slot, does it look ok?
We are an online digital camera repair shop but we haven't done any 1D cameras before.
There was a lot of discussion of this when the Mk II was new. Many people "fixed" it doing just the things you did. Also, some reported that mounting the lens on another camera "fixed" it.
IIRC, in the end it ended up being a lens issue. IS module. Canon can repair.
