Hi, set doesn`t have "convergence tubes", it has 3 picture tubes and it has 2 convergence IC`s post the symptom you see on the screen or tell us where you got the term "convergence tubes". If it needs all 3 tubes the set is not cost effective to repair as they are veeery expensive to buy and you WILL need an experienced tech to install them and then align them, convergence repair here in central florida runs about 275.00, price for your area may differ greatly, send us more info if this doesn`t help, video-tek

Picture appears curved and colors don't line-up together- looks like you need 3d glasses.

d7382,

Your convergence circuitry is bad. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4220499-change_projection_tv_convergence_ics which explains the problem, how to fix it and where to get the parts at the best price.

Thanks for using FixYa and the generous rating.

Hitachi 43FDX15B distorted picture. The top of screen displays a half circle cirle and the image is distorted within the half circle. The same at the bottom of the screen. The middle of the screen is fine....

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit from the link below.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

Boe in blue dynamic convergence curcuitry. Swapped deflection yoke on two tubes but problem still remains. Unplugged convergence plug on yoke and bow disappeared but unable to adjust dynamic convergence....

what's the number of the board where you unplugged the conv yoke, should start with 930_ that is the board you need. Try the partstore.com with the part number or type in the brand and model when you have the number on the board, and they display price and availability.

I need to order a convergence chip for a sony does anyone know the cheapest way?????? thanks

Cheapest chip would not work properly or would fail next day and ultimately have to buy original or good quality convergence chip that would cost bit higher then cheapest.
Sony KP-51WH40 requires STK392-560 chip.
Part Store has $38 and $42
Electronix offers it in $15
Pacificsemi offers it for $20
Click above link to see image and price info.
Search on ebay for lower price.
Thanks.

Convergence on top of screen and 3D bended lines (yellow & pink lines).

Hi,
It is failure of convergence out ICs causing 3-D type picture on screen, you need to replace two big ICs in convergence section on main board.
Click Part Store to see an image of IC as well as price info.

If you need service manual of 43FWX20B, let me know to provide you a copy.
Thanks.

Toshiba 42" suddenly has blue arc projecting through lower half of screen. Confirmed it was the blue tube by removing the projector lens and looking at the direct image.  Is this a bad tube or something...

Hello,

This is not a bad tube it is a convergence problem. Your convergence amplifiers are malfunctioning, and need to be replaced. If you have a background in electronics, you can remove the back of the TV locate the Convergence ICs (using the schematic or service manual) and the order the parts you will need which are the two convergence ICs and the biasing resistors (you will see these on the schematic). To remove them unsolder the pins, unscrew the screws holding them on the heat sink and remove them carefully, if they stick use a solvent to break down the adhesion of the heat sink paste. Once loose, take them out and then unsolder the biasing resistors and replace them with the ones you ordered along with the ICs.

To install the new ICs put heat sink paste on the back of the ICs and insert the pins into the proper holes in the circuit board. Screw the screws back in securely, and solder the connections back.

After doing this you will need to perform a convergence adjustment, using the cross hair adjustment screen (access this from your TV menu). and the you will need to do an advance adjustment using the crosshatch pattern (also accessed from your TV menu).

Once these are done use you service manual to follow the procedures on locking the adjustments into the TVs memory.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Samsung hcm4216w

can you look into the blue lens when the set is playing using a hand held mirror and see if there is a picture in the blue CRT. If not you will need a new tube for the blue. If you do need a tube let me know as I have a source for good used tubes that are very reasonably priced.

Samsung rear projection tv

It probably is see if you can align the convergence manually or auto if available, you can order just the convergence ic's or the convergence amp board, whichever you prefer. check pricing and availability. also check Blue crt for faded picture, usually dirty crt fluid, makes picture dark and discoloured. If it is you may need to replace the blue crt also. this gets a little expensive, again check pricing hope this gets you started RFT

Mitsubishi VS-60705 red lamp replacement

The part you are describing is actually the red picture tube, not a lamp. The tube will come dry and you will need to disassemble the lens assembly on the old tube, drain the coolant (antifreeze), reassemble the parts and seal on the new picture tube, fill with fresh coolant, install the new tube, reconnect all wires including the dangerous high voltage lead, then realign the yoke and entire convergence circuits. This is not something that should be attempted by anyone without experience. If you try it yourself and the seal is not working perfectly, the coolant will drip down on your main boards and the set will be ruined. If you slip while lowering the new tube in the chassis there is a good chance you will crack the tube's neck, and that tube will be useless too.
