SOURCE: sony bravia dims randomly

There should be a setting in the menu of the TV to turn off the auto dim feature (used for adjusting the brightness of the picture depending on ambient room lighting) I don't have a Sony LCD here with me to walk you through the menu settings, but I am certain it is there somewhere. (Chased this issue for the wife who had the same displeasure you're having)

If you use a digital cable box, it could be that the volume on that isn't turned up all the way. I didn't even realize the box had volume controls until 2 years after I got it...makes a HUGE difference now

Master volume not registering at correct level. Profx12

This unit will require an amp. I have set up several mixers and I
do not watch output level numbers, you can get desired volume using amp. It does no good to drive input levels high output levels high and the turn down amp. Lower your inputs so no light flashes set master gain to -6 output and then raise amp volume. I have set up 16 mic mixer set individual levels and the feed to main mixer and controlled levels with one fader. I have taken mixes from main mixer to another mixer to control audio on video feed. A good band does not let member's set their levels . the audio person set levels, bad bands have members to set own level with resultant a mess that gets louder and produces sub par event. Remember good bands sound good and bad bands only sound louder, and bad

Audio problem streaming media via ROKU and RCA players. Constantly have to adjust volume to hear them talk, but then the music/sound effects blast you out.

It sounds like you're using a set of stereo speakers to play a surround sound output. I would try going in the TV menu and turning off surround sound

Vsx-52o when watching dts or any good movie the low sound talking you cannot hear well unless the sound level up to 55 or more ,but when the action or music starts it blows your head off its that loud...

That could be one or both of two things at work here.

One is a failing or mis-configured center channel. Crack the manual and make sure the speakers are all workign at the desired level with test tones.

The other is dynamic range (ratio of loud to quiet sounds). In a silent listening environment with the volume set at a comfortable level for the loudest sounds (like during the beginning of some movies you get that THX sound logo or some other audible but loud musical intro, THAT's what you adjust for) the relatively quieter moments would still be audible. Add normal background level sounds of a real-life environment and you can lose the quieter sounds and dialog.

In a perfect world and in accordance with the engineer's decisions, the widest dynamic range is the correct way to enjoy a given recording or movie.

Experiment with the DRC (page 34) for each soundtrack to see if compression might work better.

Volume increases on its own intermittently

When the volume increased did the display show it doing so as if someone was turning the knob?  I mean did the volume go from like level 15 to 30 or did the unit's level stay constant while the audio volume increased?
Were you alone or sharing the room with a jokester who has a universal remote?
Does this problem occur when the batteries are removed from your remote?
Are you sure the 'volume up' button on the unit itself is disengaging properly after being pressed?

Volume Control

I had the same issue, there is a Late night mode on the remote that minimizes the volume of a loud scene so you don't have the constantly adjust the volume. Works great if you are trying to watch a movie while others are trying to sleep.

Sony STR-DE475 - Sound levels dropping

When did this start? Did it ever work right?

How's the sound from your TV speakers by itself and from DVD? The same? Problem's in the TV.

If it's just the receiver doing it from both sources that's where we start.

Check the settings for dynamic range (ratio of loud sounds to soft sounds) in both your receiver and your cable TV tuner. Many devices have a setting sometimes called "MidNight Mode" to be used in the event you're listening while someone else might be sleeping or otherwise would be disturbed by the TV volume.

The assumption is that you will turn the TV down but that normally means you would lose the quiet programming in the background nosie of your home. Through the magic of dynamic compression the quiter sounds are raised to audibility while loud things like explosions and fanfares will be limited in volume. Depending on the design and whatever the broadcaster is doing to the sound themselves this could be anywhere from pleasingly effective to aggravatingly inconsistent with odd variations in the levels.

Hope this helps.
