Check the Device Manager to see if the Wireless LAN device is working and enabled. If not reinstall the Wireless LAN driver.
If the Wireless LAN is OK and enabled then sometimes when you bootup the Wireless LAN card doesn't get an IP address from the wireless router. This usually has a red X on the wireless connection icon and sometime you get an error message "Limited or no connection".
To get the router to issue the wireless LAN card with a new IP address, righr click on the Wireless icon and click on Repair.
You can also power down the router wait 15secs and power up the router again then reboot the computer.
If it still doesn't work you could have a faulty wireless card, see it your friendly computer shop can test it for you.

Hi! is your modem a wireless modem? if not, you won't be able to use your wireless adapter. You must have a wireless router or wireless modem so you could use the wireless adapter on your computer.

My laptop stopped picking up wifi after a much needed modification. I have a 3 year old hp pavilion dv9000. the hinges broke so I decided to remove the monitor of the laptop and hook it up to a desktop...

That is because the WI-FI antenna wires were on the LCD panel behind the glass.

Currently your laptop base has no signal. The only solution is that you may pick up a signal with the base alone, if it is near the wireless router about 20' (3 meters).

Hello. I am Ali. I am from Iran. I have a HP pavilion dv9000 laptop. It had work very well till 2 weeks ago But my wifi doesn't work any more.I changed my OS and I re-installed my drivers and after that I...

I would first try to get into HP wireless assitant which you can do through Control Panel (Start >> Control Panel or Start >> Settings >> Control Panel). In there you can turn your wireless on and off. Be sure to make sure the wireless switch at the front is turned on also. If the light near the wireless switch still remains orange, then you will need to get the motherboard repaired or replaced as this is a known issue. If you still have warranty, HP will repair this free of charge. Otherwise contact a repair company such as www.revivemylaptop.com

dv2000/dv6000/dv9000 recall
I have an out of warranty dv9000 and haven't had wireless for months. I just discovered HP issued a recall for the wireless and other problems with several different Pavilion and Presario models. For the wireless problem with the dv9000 they are replacing the motherboard on all notebooks in or out of warranty. I was wondering if anyone has had the repair done under the recall and how it turned out? I'm also wondering if HP is still cosmetically trashing notebooks when they are sent in for repair?
Here is the link for the recall:

Hp dv9000 switches on to show coloured lines on screen.

Hello

My first guess is that the screen circuitry has gone bad - although fixable. Use an external monitor to verify this. If the external monitor is fine then the screen circuitry is bad, if the external screen shows the same problem then the video chip or associated circuitry has gone bad. My company fixes these all the time.

HP DV9000 Wireless Card Not Working

Did the wireless icon from your machine light up? If no, you need to re-install your wi-fi driver. If you have the cds with you, re-install the driver then switched on your wi-fi. If you dnt have the cds, try checking on the HP site and look for the wi-fi driver.

HP Pavilion Entertainment PC dv9000

Making a fairly confident presumption that your laptop is an AMD-based unit, model is....DV9205, DV9310, or DV9410

HP issued a service alert 07122001 covering such AMD-based laptops with your wifi failure, as well as additional failures within your product line. This is a warranty enhancement that will cover the replacement part and labor for you the customer.

HP has very recently started phasing out their older models like the 9005/9010, as the issue alert is basically good from 2yrs of date of purchase.

2 solutions for you....

1) Call HP and give them the serial/model info and inquire about that service alert # mentioned above, see if your laptop is still covered.

2) Replace the motherboard yourself and at your cost

(ok maybe another option)

3) Get a USB wifi card :/
