Pool pumps have a start capacitor, not a solenoid. if you plan to change this yourself, BE CAREFUL. there is enough electricity to give a horrible shock. also, make sure to replace it with the exact same capacitor (written on the capacitor). most businesses that sell them will usually test the suspected faulty unit at no charge

Pool over fills

It depends on the actual valve. The valve that comes standard with the system is designed for typical municipal water pressures of around 35 to 40 psi.

It is easy to replace the valve for one with higher pressure ratings.

I accidently got a very large surge of water which probably goe into my pool pump, now when I plug the pump in, it starts but trips the breaker. Any suggestions?

you could try taking starter solenoid apart and drying / cleaning it.
Spray heaps of WD40 around and inside pump motor (when motor not conected to mains!).
Turn pump impella by hand or screwdriver to free up pump.

There is a overload switch - somtimes inside the starter solenoid area.
While you have the pump disconected from mains power - check to see if pump impella turns freely.
