No. The digitizer and lcd and everything is one piece in the iphone 4. You have to replace the digitizer and all. Which means you do have to take the iphone apart.

Look carefully:Is this just behind the glass front? If so, somebody or something has leaned very heavily against the screen bending it inwards and fracturing the display layer. If no obvious signs of impact damage, spillage, corrosive sprays etc, try your warranty.

If the touch screen is broken you need to get the digitzer and front lens replaced. I recommend having it done professionally but you can find out how to do it yourself online.

the upper glass is called touch panel or digitizer it is working as u say but lcd is broken u can see visible cracks on it and it may partially display or not at all then ur lcd is broken by pressure or impact u need to get it replaced around like 100-150 dollars depends on the model and size of the lcd screen

hi guide to place front broken glass v3i open phone at the top you will 2 rubber covers remove them with a pin (pick them out) then at the bottom it will be the same but these are little round rubbers also pick the out now you should have 4 screws visible use the screw driver to remove them then once removed use the prize tool and insert it in the bottom of the v3 twist it and it should unclip remove outer panel remove glass its stuck on there very tightly but asgain prize it off then put the phone back together but dont put your glass in yet wait till its back together then remove backing tape from new glass and push it in place once your phones back together but dont push to hard lol or you will need another glass hope this helps mrjazon
