Probably needs new fuel lines to/from and in the tank. Have you been using ethanol gas? It eats up the fuel lines on 2 cycle motors. After you get it fixed, use only pure gasoline. I've had to rebuild two of mine so far!

SOURCE: Craftsman trimmer won't prime

A new carburetor would be simplest solution. You could try disassembling the carb, cleaning and replacing diaphrams, but just replacing the carb would be my choice. What is the model # on the trimmer and I can tell you the part # of the carb you need.

SOURCE: carburator will not prime

Could be a few things: Got enough petrol? The petrol MUST be above the filter in the tank. You need about 3/4 " of petrol. Or the filter could be blocked. To check, disconnect the fuel line at the back of the primer bulb, and see if the fuel flows freely. But first make sure that you have something to catch the fuel. AND NO SMOKING!!! Or the bulb might be perished, and letting in air. In this case, disconnect the two fuel lines, taking note of which one went where, pull the little lugs on the side of the bulb holder so that the bulb comes out, and simply reverse all that with the new bulb. I have a husqvarna 440 chainsaw I installed a new carb on it and.now I can't get the primer bulb to prime gas what gives?

https://www.partstree.com/models/440-e-husqvarna-chainsaw-2008-05/

The link shows components of the saw.

Three fuel lines...

1. Fuel tank dip tube (fuel filter) to siphon side of primer bulb

2. Primer output to carb in.

3. Fuel return to tank.

Likely you have reversed the primed bulb lines.
Disconnect the line from the primer bulb to the carb. If you have the correct connection from the tank to the primer bulb, fuel will spurt out the bulb as you press the bulb

If no fuel, move the line at the primer bulb to the other primer connection. Press primer bulb a few times and fuel should spurt out bulb.

If still no fuel then a problem with the fuel tank dip tube or plugged filter

Why won't primer bulb fill on homelite 26cs weadeater?

a primer bulb should not actually fill, that said, if it is not priming your carb then there might be a tiny crack or pin hole that is letting air in as you try to prime, order and change the primer bulb.

How do i know if fuel hoses are connected to right sockets

Knowing the make and model will help. Some saws have a primer bulb that will suck the fuel through the carb to prime it.

If this is the case, here is the sequence: Fuel line from tank goes to the (fuel in) side of the carb. The (fuel out) side of the carb goes to the primer bulb the (suction side) The (blowing side) of the primer goes to the return to tank.

So when the primer is pumped it pulls fuel into the carb to prime it and any over priming gets returned back to the tank.

Primer bulb not pumping fuel into carb, pull it out, no splits etc. Once I get fuel in it starts and runs fine??

Probably a valve in the priming system is stuck. It allows fuel to flow into the bulb from the tank, the valve should close then and allow the bulb pressure to spray into the carburetor. Could also be the opening into the carburetor from the prime bulb is blocked.

My prime bulb looses pressure and first start is hard. I have to remove fuel line from filter and cover with thumb prime re install then first start takes time.

Does the engine run fine after it starts? Most common problem with primer bulb losing prime is an air leak in the fuel line or primer bulb. Air leaks don't always leak fuel. If there is an air leak between the primer bulb and gas tank there is no pressure, only vacuum. If it is not a major leak it might not leak without pressure but it will allow air to enter the fuel line. If it is a very minor air leak it could allow air to replace the liquid in the fuel line over time, but so little air once it is primer again that the fuel pump can over come it with volume of fuel.

Primer bulbs do not stay firm, as they are when initially pumped up, after the engine is running. There are check valves in the primer bulb that hold pressure in the primer bulb and throughout the fuel line to the engine. Once the engine starts the fuel pump creates vacuum drawing fuel into the engine diminishing this pressure and releasing the check valves. At this point the primer bulb is just another segment of fuel hose allowing fuel to pass through it as the fuel pump demands. The primer bulb functions much better when the outlet side is higher than the inlet side. This position makes it easier for the check valves in the primer bulb to seat and release as needed. If the primer bulb is functioning properly and is positioned with the outlet side higher than the inlet it should not be necessary to cover the end of the fuel hose with your thumb to get it to prime.

If the engine is hard to start after being fully primed there could be a problem with the fuel system on the engine. Some engines are hard to prime once air has entered the system, especially fuel injected models.

If its identical it should work ,if not take the old one to a mower shop,to get correct one and make sure the choke is going right on when the cable is in choke position.

Fuel leaks bulb not priming.

If you have a leak the bulb will not prime. Over time the either the rubber on the primer bulb gets a pin hole in it requiring bulb replacement or one of the fuel lines cracks and introduces air into the lines. Unless the system is completely sealed the primer bulb will not work. Make sure all of the connections on the fuel lines are tight and correct the system leaks.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

PRIMER BULB WONT PRIME

I would recheck the carburetor to make sure you put the diaphragms next to the carburetor and not the gaskets.
Please if it is not priming you may have the fuel lines hooked up wrong. Also check the fuel cap to make sure the vent assembly is there. If the tank is not venting, the tank will get a vacuum in it not allowing fuel to flow.
