Losing power My 24 HP Craftsman mower seems to be losing power. I have changed oil and oil filter (36 hours ago), I have changed air filters, sparkplugs and the fuel filter. Nothing has helped. What else should I check? BY the way, the engine does not seem to be using oil.

I take it its a Briggs motor
It sounds like 2 possibilities
1 possible half sheared flywheel key causing out of time conditions
2 carb is dirty not due to your new gas filter but dirt through air inlet and needs to be taken off diassembled and cleaned (carb cleaner and determine all jets and small orfice holes are clean.

i would also check fuel flow. pull the gas line from the carb and see if gas flows out at a good rate (into a metal can of course) or if it trickles out. if the latter, then gas tank either has junk at the bottom preventing the gas from flowing or the vent hole (usually on the gas cap) is plugged.

i have also had my carb float bowl rust out on me, but that took 10 years.

There is a compression release device on the cam shaft to allow the engine to spin easier when starting. This is likely the culprit because the starter isn't strong enough to push the engine past full compression. The fix is to replace the cam shaft.

My Craftsman 26hp tractor is running extremely ruff, I have replaced the plugs Confirmed that the plugs are working. It runs ruff at all speeds. The tractor was runing just fine a few weeks ago

You've changed the plugs have you checked the oil and air filter if not you need to because if not it might need changed and it may be low the rider my father gave me ran ruff and would die in 5th gear and I changed the oil and air filter now it stays going in all gears. So my suggestion to you is to to change the oil and air filter I am not a pro but I have had to keep my mowers going no help from anyone so I had to learn so if you don't agree with me check with a repairman.

The tractor is burning oil fast,I check it every time I us it. It's has started smoking when i engage the blades. I just changed the oil filter, air filter and fuel filter about 4 weeks ago.

Most likely you have a blown head gasket, check the fuel pump to see if oil is coming out of it or the line to it is fill with oil.If this is the case replace the headgasket.

My craftsman 18 HP tractor model 917.274400 will not run

Sounds like something is clogged. It may need a new air filter or the carburetor may need cleaning out. Also I would check your fuel, if it is over 30 days old I would replace it. It may be losing compression and either need a new head gasket or the head bolts tightened when it is hot.
Good day.
