Early in the post stage, bad ram or failing hard drive.

Do all the following with the PC unplugged:

Remove cables from Hard drive - pay attention to where the go back, turn on pc and see if it goes further (if it does, you probably have a failing hdd and should seek professional help immediately. Don't keep trying it, else you lose everything for sure.

If that doesn't work, plug the hdd back in and again with power UNPLUGGED, remove one of the ram sticks. Turn pc on.

If works, you have a bad stick or slot, if still nothing, put ram back in and take out next stick. Repeat until you find the problem.

This guy is correct, do not listen to other people that can\'t even read what you said. It\'s unfortunate you have the stupid dell splash screen blocking your post messages otherwise you could probably get a better idea where you are hanging up at. The only other thing I would add would be to reset your CMOS, this is usually a little quicker, and sometimes will fix your problem. Look up your MB in it\'s book or online, there should be a jumper you can swap to reset the cmos, this should also be done with the power off. If that is confusing or something you don\'t want to do, you can always just remove the motherboard\'s battery for 15 seconds or so, and then put it back in, it\'s also worth testing while you have it out if you can. Again, all of these things should be done with the power off and the power cord physically unplugged as some computer don\'t actually kill power to the MB totally. I would say it\'s more than likely RAM. Do you hear any clear beeping? If so, you should look up those beep codes on the computer manufacturers website or documentation.

F12 will get you to the boot menu on a functioning system. I would try pressing ESC, DEL, or F2 on a DELL system to see POST messages or to access the system BIOS.

Clearing the CMOS by removing the battery is a good thing to try.

You could also remove the memory and try booting the system using each memory stick individually.

The power supply could also be failing.

You can refer to the service manual on how to properly remove battery and memory:

SOURCE: Dell Dimension 3000 Video problem

There may be a problem with your windows installation. Search Google for Hirens boot CD, it is a free download and should contain a live XP installation. When you turn on the computer tap the appropriate button to reach the boot menu, then insert the CD and select your CD drive. Once booted it should display a live XP.
Alternatively you may have your monitor set to an incompatible resolution. If tapping F8 won't display the advanced boot menu then try finding an auto setup on your monitor or change the resolution using the monitors controls. If the advanced boot menu does display then select low resolution mode.
Hope this helps,

SOURCE: Dell computer does not boot up - I have a Dell

First I would press (I think) F11 for the boot device. In the Dell boot menu, you will have the option of running diagnostics. Try that.
You can see the Dell splash screen on startup and you can see the options letting you choose what to do. So, you can be pretty sure your CPU. motherboard, and video are OK. The next suspect might be the hard drive or the files on the hard drive. But if you don't get a "no boot device" message, it sees the hard drive. I've also experienced a booting problem if the CD goes bad. So--first run the diagnostics. Then open the case and disconnect the cable from the CD and try booting.
I am assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that you have pushed F8 key after computer startup to see if you can start the computer in safe mode.

SOURCE: dell 3000 beeps twice no video after blue dell logo.

The most possible cause is that RAM isnt attached properly on motherboard, it might loosen up sometimes. So just try to check your motherboard, pull out the RAM carefully from the RAM SLOT & attach it precisely. Hope it will work....

What happens it you press F8 or F12 when you turn on the computer do you get any different screen options.

Also to clarify is the screen staying on the Dell logo or is it going to a black screen.

Another thing to check does the computer still seen like it is booting up properly.

When you first start your computer how do get it to read the disc first?

You go into Boot Menu, and set the - first boot device to CDROM.
The computer will then read what is in the optical drive, first.

Computer off, press the Power On button. Watch closely for the blue dell logo.
Looking at the bottom of the monitor screen when the blue Dell logo comes up, you will see - F2 = Setup.
At the top right of the screen you will see F12 = Boot Menu.

This screen goes by F-A-S-T!
As SOON as you see the blue Dell logo press the F12 key.

If you miss this small window of opportunity, just wait for Windows to fully load, then click on Start, Turn Off Computer, and Restart.

If Windows is not loading, then press the CTRL, ALT, and DELete keys at the SAME TIME. (Not shouting)
This will restart your computer so you can try again.

Upon entering Boot Menu you cannot use your mouse anymore, you have to use the keyboard.

The Boot Device Menu has the devices listed, and each device has a number next to it.

At the bottom of the menu, type the number that is next to CDROM, then press the Enter key.

Booting with External DVD for Dell Inspiron 1525

Power on your system, Press F2 on Dell logo. This would take you to system BIOS. Ensure that USB controller is ON, and USB emulation is also set to ON. Save settings and Exit. System would reboot now. Press F12 on Dell logo, and select USB ROM as the boot device. This should boot your computer through your External drive. If it still doesnt work, try switching to a different USB port. If none of these steps work, it may be a problem with the boot sector on your External drive.

Good Luck!

Error loading operating system

1. The reason it says "error loading operating system" is because kill disk wiped the operating system from off your computer.
2. Now that you have the installation disk, you need to tell the computer to boot from it. For Dells, usually press F12 when the Dell logo appears, and it should bring up a boot menu. Select the optical drive and it should boot. If you do not see a boot menu, go into your computer's BIOS and tell it to look at the optical drive first when booting, then it will boot from the disk.
