SOURCE: my TI-83 plus calculator doesn't work

As battery gets drained, the screen contrast dims. But when you change batteries, some times the contrast is reset to some low value and the screen appears dead: it is so light that you do not see anything, and you think the calculator is malfunctioning. This is the most frequent reason users think the calculator refuses to turn ON. And I hope that is the case now.
To correct that, you must increase screen contrast: draken the screen a bit. To do so

  1. press [2nd] key and release it.
  2. Press the Up arrow and HOLD pressure.
  3. Keep pressing the arrow key until screen is dark enough.
If that solve your problem that is good, rate the post accordingly.. If that does not, do not get irate and berate the post. Post a comment here describing what you did and what message (if any) calculator returned, and I will give you further diagnostic steps.

SOURCE: replacing batteries on a ti-30xa

Hi,

After the batteries are installed you need to reset the board. There is a little reset area that needs to be shorted to get the calculator back to normal. Look closely at the circuit board- You'll see a little circle next to the word reset. Its near the middle of the board. Wet your finger- press it on the circle. It should short.Blow it dry.

Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thank you for using fixya have a nice day:-)

Ti-84 Plus help!!

It seems like you're just starting off. And....

....The best thing you can do is begin hacking away at different buttons until you figure out what certain things do. I guarantee, that you will discover some pretty amazing things within the TI-84.

Compared to other calculators, the TI-84 is pretty user-friendly. Don't be scared.

In my opinion, Texas Instruments' customer service is one of the best in the nation. Call them for specific questions, they're great at the basics but not-so hot at the advanced. Friendly & helpful people, though.

Hello: I have a very simple T125 X Solar Hand-held

Sorry its not possible with this particular model.
What my teacher in 6th grade did was make it mandatory for all of us to buy ti-30. This may sound drastic but its very cheap (only 10 dollars) and has severed me well for almost 9 years. Its can convert decimals into fractions and do native fraction manipulations.

Tried new batteries TI-89 titanium turns on then immediately off. New batteries didn't help and we checked orientation.

Try taking all the batteries out for 5 minutes, then place them in right order back again. I know it's a simple solution, but i worked for me. I was so worried that my calculator had short circuited, and that i had to invest in a new. Mine works now.

While you are waiting for the eventual arrival of your new calculator, we may try to diagnose the ailing of the old one.
  1. Remove the old batteries. Buy a new set of batteries.
  2. Prepare the connectivity cables needed to connect the calculator to the computer. Choices are the TI USB silver cable, or the TI Graphlink Black serial cable.
  3. From education.ti.com, download the connectivity software compatible with the cable you will be using from this site. In all probability you will need the TI Connect 1.6 for Windows or Mac.
  4. From education.ti.com, download the latest operating system
  5. Install the Ti connectivity software on your computer.
  6. Wait for a day then insert the new batteries.
  7. Turn calculator ON
  8. Execute the TI Connect software.
  9. Connect calculator to computer.
  10. If you have an active Internet connection, click the Updates button on TIConnect main window.
  11. The software will download the latest OS and install it on the calculator.
  12. If you do not have an active Internet connection, run the TIConnect software.
  13. Connect calculator and computer. Turn calculator ON
  14. Drag and drop the OS which you downloaded on the TIConnect main window.
  15. The software will attempt to install the OS,
If for some reason this does not work, you can transfer the OS of a working calculator. You will need a cal-to-calc USB miniA to miniB cable or a calc-to-cal I/O cable.

Texas Instruments TI-30XA Calculator Problem

Either battery is dying, or circuit board has gone, or connector cable loose.

You can replace battery by removing 6 screws at back of calculator, but cost of battery is around 40% of buying new TI-30XA for $10 from Amazon, Staples or elsewhere.

I've used TI-30XA's for years, batteries usually last 2-3 years, then I buy new calculator. The one time I tried to replace battery, fading display still problem, so circuit board had gone bad.

So you could try battery replace and may be OK, but also may be waste of time and $$

TI-84

It depends on what you want to use it for. If you are looking for something that just does basic mathematical calculations, any electronics store has any number of choices.

If you are looking for something to help with higher math (calculus) TI's TI-83 and 84are pretty much the standard.

I actually fixed mine!!!! Mine was acting up too. I found somewhere that the no/slow key response could be due to a short in the I/O socket. I blew into it really hard (you may want to use compressed air, but I didn't have any onhand), and it works perfectly now!!!!!!!!!! I hope this helps.

Ti83 plus calculator

Hi,

You didn't mention how old the calculator was so let me give you a little information to aid you in making a decision. First...solid state electronics don't last forever but a calculator should last a long time if it is not dropped, immersed in water, etc. I have a programmable model that is over 25 years old. Having said that, if the model is still in warranty, that would be the logical solution. If not then you have three opportunities.....the bad meaning pitch it out if you have received fair value from it (I don't know when you purchased it), the expensive (probably more than it would cost to replace) meaning calling around and asking a TV shop (not a computer shop) if they would not mind taking a look at it (some might) or if you happen to know an electronics tech...or (and this works) giving a call to the local junior college and checking to see if the instructor in a basics class might like to fix it (you pay for parts) as a class project, lastly (and this can work) a letter to TI customer service if the product is less than 5 years old saying, "I'm not sure what the mean time between failures is but my son's xyz which I have enclosed failed after approximately xxx hours use. As I am on a limited budget I was wondering if it could be fixed." You might get a response...most folks in Texas are pretty nice and TI is interested in maintaining their reputation. This will cost you a couple of dollars in freight. You, if you check around, can find very inexpensive (very sophisticated) calculators. I would also point out that there are many very sophisticated calculators free on the internet (not quite as handy as you have to use a mouse or the keypad (with some, not all) if you have a computer or the work your son does is also requires a computer. Hope this helps....Tango
