Since upgrading OS to Leopard the HP Scan Pro software crashed. I reinstalled and not get messageĀ that it can not find the scanner. It prints fine.
I was able to get my 6110 to scan by downloading HP_Installer_PSC7100_v9.7beta.dmg . I saw this on XLR8YourMac for another HP multi-function and on a lark I decided to try it. During the installer it won't detect the 6110, but you are able to "Skip" to the next step until it's installed. Then, launch "HP All-in-One Device Chooser" and you will see the 6110 listed. After I choose it there, I was able to use "HP Scan Pro" with the 6110. I've not really tested the rest of the applications.
Ā Ā Ā My last solution was somewhat incomplete. Ā It worked with my last system (Dual G5 under 10.5) because at some point I had loaded an older version of the drivers and "upgraded" them. Ā I tried my own solution since switching to a IMac 20" (Intel) with 10.5.5 and it didn't work. Ā I'm guessing this is because loading the original drivers install some profiles for the 6100 that are not loaded by drivers intended for other models. So, I tried a few things and I am pretty sure what got it working was loading "6100_790_EN.dmg" then loading "HP_Installer_OJ6200_v9.7.dmg". Ā The "6100_790_EN.dmg" install had an unexpected quit for 'HPIO Trap Monitor' but I was able to carry on. Ā The 'HP Setup Assistant' launched after the 790 driver was complete, but it did not find my 6110 so I quit it. Ā Then, I ran the OJ6200 installer. Ā I chose "My device is not listed" to enable the "Continue" button. Ā Then on the next page of the installer I choose "Officejet 6200 series". Ā After the files copy the next page choose "Skip Setup" and unchecked the "Remind me to run the Setup Assistant..." and "Add the Setup Assistant to the Dock" Ā and clicked "Skip". Ā Finally I got the big green check and "OK" to exit. Ā Then I run the 'HP All-in-One Device Chooser' and my 6100 is now listed with it's serial number. Ā I choose it and "OK". Ā I launch 'HP Scan Pro' and do a "New Scan" and yay it's working! Ā I can't guarantee these steps but perhaps they will help someone out there. Ā I am not going to be buying another HP printer. Ā As far as I can tell the reason it doesn't work is because they don't include it's profile in the newer drivers. Ā Seems like a intentional omission the "encourage" an upgrade!

I just downloaded the latest driver from the HP website: HP_Installer_PSC6100_v9.7.1.dmg
Go to HP Customer Care > HP Photosmart C6180 All-in-One Printer > Mac OS X > Software & Driver downloads.
It works fine for me now.
The issue is that the scanning software works fine as long as you leave it in place when upgrading to Leopard. If it gets damaged in Leopard or for whatever reason needs to be re-installed, your out of luck.
Why? Because HP has not released something as simple as a NEW INSTALLER for the software. The installer that is on the HP website now basically hangs during installation.
Now, if anybody new how to manually install the stuff in the right places, that could solve the problem. But so far I haven't seen anything about how to do that.
BTW, it has been well over 60 days since Leopard came out and HP still hasn't come out with new software. It's pretty clear that they want you to buy a newer unit.
I won't. I'll be voting against an HP with my pocketbook.
In Snow Leopard, open Image Capture, wait for your printer to show up, and scan from there. You can even feed multiple pages through the document feeder and scan into a single PDF!

I too have encountered the loss of the scan function in my Hp 6110 after upgrading to Leopard. The following quote is the response that I received from Hp Total Care. What "further assistance" could she be suggesting?
"Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.
There are no full feature drivers available for the Macintosh OS 10.5 that is compatible with the Officejet 6110. The engineers will not be creating any full feature drivers for the
Officejet 6110. You should have print functionality because of the built in drivers, but you will not have scanning functionality.
If you need further assistance, please reply to this message and we will be happy to assist you further."
Apparently HP have still to update drivers for many All-in-ones. The 6110 officejet seems to be one of those. The website says we'll have to wait from 50-60 days.... (I hope that's from Leopard's release date.)
HP moved the file to here:

I tested this and it works!
Upgrade to Leopard 10.5.2 Download VueScan http://www.hamrick.com/ (there's a free trial but the full version costs $40)
This is the only way I've found to make this work, but it does scan now just fine
I cannot scan with Leopard etiher
Download and install correct driver and software package to suit.
print driver and scanner software are not the same thing, sounds like you have right print driver but wrong scanner software and driver, goto HP and download

Usually answered in minutes!
leopard tells me a driver is missing if i want to scan; printing is ok.
My HP office jet prints but cannot scan after i installed leopard.
The PC side, bootcamp, has the same problem.
Before the leopard download, the scanner worked perfect.
So did the PC side of my mac.
Help!
Loaded Leopard the other day and tried to scan today. Ā Same problem.
Looked for updated driver and found none. Ā I guess I'll just wait.
Also experiencing the same problem with leopard upgrade and the scanning software which has since stopped working. Ā Have tried reinstalling the original driver, but no go. Ā If there's anyone out there with the solution, to this problem you can get hold of me at [email protected]
thanks
Duncan
I have Mac OSX 10.5.4 (Leopard) installed and can no longer scan either. I have a C6180 Al-In-One InkJet and can not find a solution.
My new Mac with Leopard 10.5 will not allow me to scan - printing and faxing are OK. Ā Went to Apple store and was advised to reinstall driver from disc but this did not help - when I try to open scanning, it freezes and says there is no scanner attached.
Since upgrading OS to Leopard theĀ HPĀ Scan ProĀ softwareĀ crashed. I reinstalled and not get messageĀ that it can not find the scanner. ItĀ printsĀ fine.
After installing OS 10.5 the scanner on my 6110 will not work. Fax and printer are fine. I called HP. They told me they have no intention of providing an update for this particular model and Leopard. They told me to purchase a new scanner or another all in one.
Maybe I'm being dense but how do you force the 6110 to use the 9.7.1 software?Ā
I download and installed the dmg but when I start the All-In-One Device Chooser, I do not see my 6110 listed. Do I have to restart/unplug or something?
I have the C6180. It appears that the problem occurs when I update the HP software to v.1.1.1 Ā When I keep the version below that I do not have a problem. The moment I install the 1.1.1 software then I can no longer scan.
My solution is stay away from 1.1.1
Yep! Me too. Always comes up with a "Sorry, Scanner could not be initialized" message. :(
