SOURCE: Toshiba MW24FM3 24 in. TV/VCR/DVD Combo

A common problem with this model are leaky transistors in the relay drive circuit that powers on the TV. That is electrical leakage, not anything physical you can see. The transistors should be labeled Q1701 and Q1702, and would have to be replaced by soldering, so a trip to a repair shop may be necessary. The DVD uses a standby power supply I believe, which is why it appears to work OK.

Sounds like an inverter problem. If the power supply is internal replace the capacitors coming out of the voltage regulators. These are usually 1000mf and/or 470mf. If that doesn't do the trick look up the numbers on the 8-pin chips that drive the secondary transformers on the inverter to see if they are getting the right voltages.
Good Luck!

SOURCE: Toshiba TV Combo MW24FP1, DVD player doesn't work on some discs

This is a common problem for all combo units. The high voltage of the TV section attracts large amounts of particulate dust from the air and often it collects inside the DVD unit. The best way to deal with this is to clean the lens of the DVD unit u sing a cotton swab and alcohol. The store bought "cleaners" MAY work, but that is rare. These cleaners are nothing but small brushes embedded into a disc. They attempt to brush off hte dust. This rarely works. Open up the unit (if you feel comfortabel in doing so) to access the DVD section. Remove the top cover and carefully clean the lens. That should resolve the problem.

It could be as easy as cleaning the laser. If you are a smoker, chances are that the smoke got inside the unit and is causing an issue. Wont read disc. Need to take DVD player out of tv set and clean laser. If that doesn't do it, make sure u are playing the correct type of DVD'S. Some types wont play in tv, expecially if they were burned from a computer. Usually DVD-R'S play fine and DVD+R'S won't play on some dvd players. Give that a try and let me know how things turn out.. Why wont dvd's play

1. your device is not a 'DVD-ROM' device, nor a 'CD-RW/DVD-ROM' combo device.
2. you need software, such as the free 'VLD' software, to decode the DVD, and to "play" the video.
3. your DVD-disk is scratched -- will it play in some other computer or stand-alone DVD-player?

The Toshiba DVD player won't play a DVD nor will Windows Media Player play a DVD. Downloaded another free DVD player from web and it worked momentarily then quit.

Check the Toshiba site for updated drivers for your dvd player. Also check the recall section for your particular model dvd player. They had several that were recalled.
