I do not have a manul to tell me how to set the speaker sound in each speaker

I have a samsung TI 20P1tv/video. I was told I would play dvd also but every time I load one it says 'bad disc' what does this mean as the discs I load work every time with other tv.s
Am I doing something wrong? I have not got a manual .
