I have a Canon i860. The light on the front of the printer is blinking green for two seconds then amber for five blinks. It gives us an error message when we try to print: "Operator error. Press printer's resume button. If this doesn't clear the error, cancel printing and turn the printer off and then back on." I've tried this multiple times and it still doesn't print.
Thank you for identifying the problem -- I was able to clean the printhead and it's now working again.Thank you for identifying the problem -- I was able to clean the printhead and it's now working again.

I too went through all the cleaning processes on my i860 with its amber light blinking five times to one of green. After all that time and effort, I ordered a new head, replaced it, put the old ink carts back in, and presto, worked like a charm. Don't waste time and money doing anything else.

5 flashes indicates a faulty printhead or possibly a problem with the p/head contacts. Try removing the head which is easier if you take the cartridges out first(no tools required) and re-seat it having checked the contacts for dirt.
If that doesn't work it may be that the waste ink tank is full. Try this ...
Canon S9000, S300, S400, i550, i560, i850, i860, i865, i9100, i9950, PIXMA iP3000 above, 1. Turn off printer 2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button. 3. Try this: With your i860 printer turned ON, press and hold the I/O switch then pull off the power cord. This will turn off your printer. But without lifting your finger on the I/O switch put back your power cord. the I/O switch will blink for a second and will go off, then turn-on your printer again and see if it works.
I have similar problem. I found this solution that may help you. My problem insists tho.
