It is not possible, unfortunately. I would love to read this article you referenced. There are many services, resources, and registry issues that come into play. As an alternative, Kodak produced the Scan Station 500/700 for this very reason. Cheers!
Some kodak of the i2000 series abide by different energy conservation standards. You can increase both power off \ sleep settings to 240 (4 hours), maximum. Unfortunately when the newer energy conserv's go have to be power cycled to resurrect. I have a tiny text script I can send that will make the 2400 never turn off I'm just not around my PC right now. You must have an email program like Outlook installed on your computer. When scan to email is selected it simply opens whatever defaul email client and attaches the scanned doc to a new email message.
Try updating your drivers from Kodak.com. Do not uninstall your current drivers, install the newer version on top of your existing install. Ensure you download the drivers and smart touch.
Open the Scan Validation Tool. Select TWAIN / KODAK i2000 Scanner. Click the setup button (top left icon). Highlight Default. Click the settings button at the bottom after highlighting Default. Click Device. Power Saver / Power Off values are now shown. Maximum setting is 240 (4 hours).
