Hi,
This usually happens when the batteries are nearly dead or not good enough, i recommend Duracell alkaline batteries as they seem to last longer, also try not to use the flash when it's not needed as this will conserve battery power.

Turn on digital zoom

Turn the zoom lever toward the single-tree symbol and hold it until it zooms all the way. Release the lever then turn it toward the single-tree symbol again to engage the digital zoom.

Full details are in the "Zooming in More Closely on Subjects (Digital Zoom)" section beginning on page 60 of the manual.

Turn on the unit and goes to full zoom. Back it off manually, it will immediately return to full zoom. Unit was bought new about 6 years ago.

My camera did the same....it turned out to be a sticking zoom switch. With the camera turned OFF... move the zoom button ON TOP ( above the view finder) of the camera to the left and right about 20 or 30 times... then turn the camera on and try it.... very simple... but it worked for me :o)

How do I turn on the Digital Zoom?

First, the digital zoom feature is not available in AUTO mode.

If you're not in AUTO mode, is the digital zoom turned on in the menu? Check the "DIGITAL ZOOM" entry in the Shooting menu.

Zoom

My zoom problem was a combination of the software and hardware when it came to the neutral position for the zoom slider. When the camera is first turned on, if the physical zoom slider (hardware) is in the neutral position (you are not touching it) the camera software does nothing, but if you are pushing the physical zoom slider when you turn on the camera, the software resets the "zero zoom" position into memory. The solution to my problem was to push and hold the physical zoom slider towards the wide position and the software realize reset the "zero zoom" neutral position. This may take a few tries to get it right (if you over compensate, do the opposite and push the slider towards "T" when you turn it on), but I hope this will solve your problem and save you a few bucks.

Zoom

Hey bello205,
This camera does not allow the user to actually turn off the optical zoom, but does allow the user to shut off the digital zoom. If you are talking about the digital zoom make sure it is turned on in through the menu system. As far as the optical zoom goes make sure you are not in playback mode. If this doesn't work you can try having the camera reset to the original settings every time you shut off the camera by choosing this option under the setup menu in playback mode. If none of this works have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician.

Sincerely,
Allan

Zoom Lens doesn't Zoom

Check you haven't accidentally got the camera into some fixed-zoom mode ("Super-Macro" is a favourite for this on Olympus cameras).
