Question about Garmin nuvi GPS
It says map data not available
Posted by Anonymous on
Similar problem was cured by reformatting the Mini SD card that holds the map data. I had the same problem this week with my Garmin Nuvi 265. After doing an update I received the "No Data Available" message when trying to use my GPS. After trying three days of so-called fixes I remembered that, at least in my case, the map is stored on a Mini SD card. I pulled the card from my Nuvi and popped it into the computer to see what's on there. There are 4 or 5 files associated with the map. I deleted the files and reformatted the Mini SD card using the FAT32 setting. I reinistalled the card into my GPS. Prior to connecting the GPS to my PC, I uploaded the latest version of Garmin Express. Once that was loaded I reconnected the GPS and had to re-register the unit. Once that was done the software told me that there was a new update. I ran the update. Lo and behold . . . after about 25 minutes the map was successfully loaded to my Nuvi and it was working as it should.

Try running an update with Garmin Express, let it sit for 30 Min after it says it is done, then check again
otherwise you may have jsut installed a smaller region ,... again Garmin express could help.

Have you tried this?
You can try this step that I found. If you tried loading other mapas try this.
You will need to erase a file from the units memory. Connect your GPS system to your computer; go to start then ‘My Computer’, and double click on your device file (mass storage system), there you will see a folder named ‘Garmin’.
In this folder are several different files, look for file named gmapsupp.img. Right hand click on this file and delete as this file is causing the maps to lock.

This is easy. You have to run your software, select the maps tap and then transfer maps to the device. Chances are good you uploaded a 2009 map on top of the 2008 map. The updater doesn't delete maps.
Your unl file only has one key, you have two maps loaded. Simple go into the garmin directory and delete the map file and the mapsupp file. You can easily find them because they are greater than 500 mb.
Then run mapinstall (google for the file). This will install your most current map to the Nuvi. You are back in business.

who need to hook it up to the computer and download the maps back in to the Nuvi. Kinda reprograming if you will. the Garmins usually dont come with the usb cord to conect to the computer but you should be able to buy one. hook it up and download all the maps and you should be good to go. Oh by the way they have lots of cool fetures to download on the Garmin website cool cars and voices, although i prefere for mine not to talk. Good LUck
