SOURCE: Kenmore Model 116 upright beltless vacuum, agitator will not turn

I had the same problem. The agitator stopped turning after I sucked up a foreign object (my wife's watch) and it got jammed in the intake. After removal of the watch the agitator did not spin when turning on the machine, and the reset button never deployed (it remained buried in its housing and would not depress with a paper clip). The agitator was not bound and I could manually move it in both directions with ease. Faced with prospect of paying $125 or more for a repair, a good sharp kick to the chassis from the top promptly fixed the problem. I have found that kicking malfunctioning electronics often works.

SOURCE: I have a model 116.35922 beltless drive vacuum.

I just had the same problem. The roller will not turn if the unit is overheated. I discovered that my bag was too full. I changed the bag then the roller started turning again. I don't know if this is true cause and effect, but it couldn't hurt to try.

SOURCE: brush on progressive beltless vacuum

Before you replace any parts, I recommend that you unplug the vacuum cleaner and remove the lower plate as shown in the first image below. Check for a build-up of hair or lint on the agitator end cap assembly that could be causing excessive friction. This could prevent the agitator from spinning properly and would overheat the motor. In this situation, the motor overload and thermal protector could be working properly and simply opening to shut off the motor when it overheats. You can use the procedure for removing the agitator/motor assembly if necessary to thoroughly check and clean the end cap. Check for any damage to the end cap or motor supports. If you find damaged components, they will need to be replaced. You can view a parts list diagram for this vacuum cleaner at partselect.com Use your full model number (116.35922500) to access the diagram and listing for your vacuum cleaner.
If you find no problems, I recommend that you reassemble the unit and test it. When the motor cuts off, check it to determine if it is apparently hot. If it is, then you will likely need to replace the motor (part 81922670).
If the motor is not hot, then you could have a failed thermal protector (part 8192229) that is opening prematurely. You could also have a failed motor overload (part KC76KCJNZ000). A technician would normally check the continuity through these components to determine which one has failed in this situation. I provided a wiring diagram in the second image below in case you need to check these components. I also provided a wire routing diagram. It is extremely important that all wiring is routed properly to prevent the pinching and shorting of wires. It is unlikely that you will need to check these components but the information is there if you need it.

Cord got into brush area. pulled cord and now rollers will not turn. Beltless drive Vacuum kenmore 3 years old 11635922500

Greetings,

Your Kenmore Beltless Drive upright model 116.35922500 has an overload protection system designed on it. This will prevent anything from damaging the brush motor, or your roller brush if you were to vacuum up something in it (i.e. your cord).

The reset switch can be found in this below diagram as item # 3. This would be the first thing I would try. Simply just push down on the red switch actuator while the vacuum is on, then recline the handle down. Did this fix it?

If this doesn't fix it, please let me know by requesting a clarification request, or by adding a comment to the repair here on Fixya. I think from how you explained it that this should fix your vacuum cleaner. I hope this helped you. If this was helpful, please be sure to rate the repair solution as helpful by clicking the thumbs up icons in the top right hand corner of the repair. Thank you very much,

If it is direct drive then the motor or the wireing to the motor are bad. If it is gear driven then the gears are probally stripped.

My kenmore beltless upright canister vaccuum doesn't spin anymore

Ensure the agitator is not bound up and can be moved manually by hand in both directions. Clean any string or binding material if you find it. Press the reset button on the top of the chassis. If it clicks, then you should try turning it on and see if the agitator spins. If it doesn't spin, I have had luck giving a sharp kick to the top of the chassis.

Auto brush on hoover windtunnel doesn't spin anymore

I have a Windtunnel S3765 with the same problem - and it has very little use so I'm confident it isn't wear. I find that the wheels do not raise the agitator brush sufficiently high to reduce the drag caused by excessive contact with the carpet. If I raise the front a bit the brush spins as it should. It also works if I take the housing apart and use it without ..... but this is tricky.

Unfortunately I haven't figured out a way to hold it up efficiently. I am toying with afixing something to the bottom of the housing to raise the front enough to give the brush a little more room.

I have a Kenmore upright beltless that suddenly, the brush stopped spinning. Do you have an answer for this?

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. On the Kenmore upright the belt is broken and needs replacing and you can take it to Sears / Kenmore or a local vac dealer and they can change it for you or you can attempt to do it yourself, usually it just takes a screwdriver and either a flat or a geared belt for less than $10.00 to $15.00 is an estimate.
