Xerox Work Center 657 Will Not Recieve, After Replacing Drum

My Xerox WorkCenter 657 was displaying a "Drum Life Warning" Message so i replaced the Drum. Even after replacing the drum this warning message was flashing so my Xerox guy (who was here for another machine) reset the fax and the warning stopped flashing. Since this time I am able to send faxes without a problem but my fax is not receiving. It rings but never actually receives anything. Any ideas? (i do not have a service contract on this machine so I would hate to call in for a tech to come out! thanks)

Check to see if when he reset the fax reverted back to receive only as a default.

  1. Press [Menu] (the Up arrow key), and press [3], [1], [0], then press [1].
  2. Select the Answer Mode:
    • Press [1] to select Auto answer, then skip to step 3.
    • Press [2] to select Manual answer, the press [Stop] to return to the Standby mode.
  3. If you select the Auto answer feature, use the numeric keypad to enter the number of times (must be 2 digits, 01-10) the phone must ring before the machine answers, then press [Enter].

NOTE: When the machine is set to Auto answer and the set number of rings occurs, the machine answers with a fax signal tone and enters the Auto Receive mode.

  4. Press [Stop] to return to the Standby mode.

How to reset drum counter

There is no way to do that. Usually the drum goes very scratchy in this model before the designed life has passed.

Hi, I have a Workcenter XD102. It gives me a J2 error. I don't know how to fix it. Please help. Thank you very much, Charles

J2 error for Workcenter XD102 indicates a Drum Cartridge Problem sensed by the main PWB indicating that the Drum cartridge had reached its end of life. You may replace the Drum cartridge with a brand new Drum Cartridge. This should fix the problem.
If you believe that its not the Drum cartridge with or without replacing the Drum cartridge, you may try to open the printer, make a good clean and perform the below. 1. Check the PWB and Drum Cartridge Reset Circuit for any loose connection and short circuit. You may re-seat the cables and terminations and test. 2. If that didn't work you might need to get some voltage from the Drum Cartridge Reset Circuit as per below. 2a. If voltage is more than 0.5 VDC measured between PJ CN116-2 and GND then you need to replace the Drum Cartridge Reset Switch PL x.x. 2b. If voltage is less than 0.5 VDC measured between PJ CN116-2 and GND then actuate the Drum cartridge Reset Switch. Then check the voltage if its +5 VDC measured between PJ CN116-2 and GND. i. If not then replace the Drum Cartridge Reset Switch PL 5.. ii. Else it should be fine. iii. If not then replace the Main PWB, PL 7.1.

Our xerox M118 showing an error"replace drum cartridge'can any one help me?Plizzz

Hello, Your Xerox has two cartridges - one is the drum cartridge and the other is a toner cartridge. Please check the following I've researched from your user guide:

Replacing the Drum Cartridge
The drum cartridge is a customer replaceable unit. After approximately 55,000 copies/
prints, the machine will display a warning message before the drum reaches the end of
life. Order a replacement cartridge now to insure continuous operation.

Country Part Number for the drum cartridge replacement
All countries 13R589

Removing the Old Drum Cartridge
1. Pull the front cover towards you to open it.
2. Open Tray 5 (bypass tray) if necessary, and then open Cover A while lifting up
the release lever.
3. Lift up the colored lever, and slide the drum cartridge out until you can lift the
handle on top of the cartridge.
4. Hold the handle and remove the cartridge from the machine.
NOTE: When replacing the drum cartridge, make sure that the new cartridge is the
correct one specified for the machine.

Recycling the Drum Cartridge
The drum cartridge is designed to be re-manufactured. To recycle used drum
cartridges, return them to Xerox in the original packaging. Return labels are included
with each new cartridge.

Inserting the New Drum Cartridge
1. Remove the new drum cartridge from the box.
2. Undo the sealing tape and carefully pull out in the direction of the arrow to
remove the black protective sheet from the cartridge.
3. Place the cartridge in position and, using the handle, slide it into the
machine until it clicks.
4. Pull out the cartridge tape completely without breaking it.
5. Push the cartridge again so that it is correctly placed.
6. Close Cover A until it latches and then close Tray 5 (bypass tray).
7. Close the front cover.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Xerox Workcenter Pro 657 Memory Error

With a 657, most likely the main board has failed. It is not uncommon at all, That is a general problem with that model.
What you can try is, looking from the front of the machine, the main board is located on the back right side. removing 2 screws and releasing the levers will allow you to slide the processor board out of the machine. You can try just reseating,,,, removing and shoving the board back into the machine, and seeing if that helps.
Most likely, either the board has failed, or the memory battery had exceeded its life and the memory is not working.
Wish I had a more positive answer for you, but the 657 is getting older, and those lithium batteries are failing. I have to add though, that those processor boards, have failed pretty frequently over the years.
What you can do is go onto Google and look up "the parts drop" ,,, call them and ask for Britt, and see what he has as far as that producut is concerned. That machine is actually made byn Toshiba, you may be be able to find either a Xerox, or Toshiba repair dealer in your area that has that board and will fix it reasonably. If you find a Toshiba dealer other than a Xerox dealer. Tell them it is the same machine as a Toshiba E-120, they are exatly the same.
