hi
KNOW most technical words , as in difference of CARTRIDGE OR stylus (or needle) inside it, are not used clearly
This page https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/purchased-pioneer-pl-950-new-to-vinyl.543166/
gives a cartridge substitute:
"For cartridges I have seen many recommend the Audio Technica at-95e."
Before buyin see- https://www.audio-technica.com/en-us/at95e for the cartridge.

I have a Kenwood KD12R turntable. How do I set the arm and needle. I have a weight with an adjustable dial at the end of the arm and a separate anti skating dial on the base of the turntable? Regards -...

The weight should be set to the position recomended by the cartridge maker. Typically 1.5 to 2.5. If you don't know the makers setting, set it at 1.5 and work upwards. The stylus should track nicely in the record groove and not jump. But not too heavy as to cause rumble in the sound. Set the skate control low and again try the record out, if the stylus starts to skate accross the record increase the force. It's a case of experimentation with no fixed rules on these settings. Some records might need adjusments afterwards.

One channel vocals drop out

yes, it is very likely the stylus. the stock needle is conical shaped like a ball point pen. You might have a tonearm that is out of alignment but usually it's the needle. It is possible it is just dust on the tip but if it occurrs in consistent areas of the record, then it is likely that the music is just too demanding for the LP2D you will either have to use your old technics which is likely better quality or you could try upgrading the stylus on your LP2D.
If you do a yahoo search for "4-211-DE-GUARD" with the quotes, the 1st result will take you to an elliptical upgrade over the stock needle. The elliptical tip will pull more info out of the grooves and into your computer for further processing.

Replacing the stylus

Go to esupport.sony.com and type in your turntable model, PS LX250H. The "H" is important. Available is the complete manual, and a separate publication just on removing the stylus and setting EQ. Basically, swing the protector bar down over the needle, and snap the entire (mine is beige) unit down from the tone arm, then pull forward. I'm still shopping for the replacement, frankly.
