No sound

First off, check to make sure the sound is not muted. check the speaker icon next to the clock or the sound properties in control panel. If it is not muted then download this driver: http://www.soft32download.com/software/free-download-IBM-ThinkPad-R40-Audio-driver.html

Knocking sound out of right side of yamaha sub

The speaker on the non-playing side is blown. Disconnect it or the amp will get fried as well. The coil has loosened from its form and is rattling against the speaker frame. If the insullation on the coil wires gets worn enough,it will short against the frame and possibly smoke that amp channel.
