SOURCE: can ssd and 8gb RAM speed up render times

OK, so you have a laptop. That is immediately going to limit your upgrade options. The CPU and GPU provide the muscle when it comes to rendering but those upgrade options are out when it comes to laptops. What is left is going to be about keeping the data flow to and from the CPU and GPU as fast and smooth as possible as well as keeping your operating system free from irrelevant processes soaking up resources.
I'm going to make the assumption that you work with large files, possible raw image data etc. In that case more memory is going to be better since that will need to less swapping data between hard disk and RAM. Note that if you run Windows you need 64bit Windows to benefit from memory over 4Gb (well -ish). The less and faster data can be swapped the more efficiently the CPU and GPU can be fed data to work on. I would heartily recommend you upgrade the memory as far as you can and that you reinstall your entire system to a nice fast SSD. The bonus benefit of this is that a re-install will tidy up any clutter on your computer too. I have heard reports of graphic designers having cut rendering time from 10h to 1h just by re-installing their systems.
To keep your computer working happily in the future it might be worth looking into keeping a restore image of your freshly installed system on removable media so you can quickly re-install your system once or twice per year to keep things running smoothly.

Sony vgn-z520

Usually, it is not possible to upgrade the cpu on a laptop. In rare cases where it is possible the upgrade usually costs nearly as much as a new laptop.
However, you can significantly upgrade the laptop's performance by adding more memory and by replacing the old slow hard drive.
Your Sony VGN-Z250 is usually supplied with 3GB of RAM memory. You can replace the existing memory modules with a new kit consisting of 2 x 2GB modules (total 4GB). The type of memory you need is "SO-DIMM" (meaning laptop size) DDR3 - 1066MHz (you may use 1333MHz memory but it will only run at 1066MHz speed). I would suggest either G-Skill or Crucial brand memory. And you can replace the hard drive with an SSD. You'll be amazed at the boost this provides, seriously. I would suggest either Samsung 840 EVO or Sandisk Ultra for an SSD. Both offer super-fast performance compared to your old spinning hard drive, and both have very low power consumption so they run cool and give your laptop a few extra minutes of battery power. You can clone/copy your existing Windows setup onto the SSD using free Macrium Reflect software or free software from the SSD maker's website. Or, you can do a fresh install of Windows.

Replacing the hdd with ssd

Does your laptop's BIOS support SSDs? The BIOS of some older laptops won't work properly with solid-state drives. Unfortunately, there's no easy rule of thumb to follow in this regard, so before you buy, try doing a Web search for your PC model and "SSD compatible" to see if other users have had upgrade issues.

And if everything is fine then here the Video which can help you to Replace Hdd over SSd

Hi, I purchase a Mac Air when they first came out and have 4 GB Ram and 64 GB Flash SSD HD. I would like to know whether I can purchase the 256 GB Flash SSD and upgrade my harddrive capacity.

It should work as long as the SSD is physically the same size so it will fit in the mac. Before buying the SSD I would check with a local computer repair shop as to whether the mac os can handle that certain SSD. I think it should work fine.

Just want to know if I can change out the 8g SSD in this acerone to a 160 g hard drive

you might be able to find a compatable upgrade ssd but remember ssd's are just basically chips on a pcb not like an old "record player" hard disk drive, which also has more moving parts and is likely to fail at an earlier stage due to this. Also ssd's are shock proof which gives them the advantage
