My desktop pointer divice will not open anything just keeps trying

Try shutting down ALL unnessary running programs. Use CCLEANER freeware at: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/. This will clean the junk from your machine. In the TOOLS section, STARTUP page, disable ALL Unnessary startup programs. Open the Task Manager to see what is using all your memory/processor resourses. Runa Full Scan with MALWAREBYTES freeware : http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/ In the install, UNCHECK the PRO TRIAL version, you want the freeware version. Remove ALL unnessary TOOLBARS from your broswer, they are killers on broswer speed.

Computer freezes up

Hi,

In case your system freezes at system startup, it usually implies that there are way too many programs loading at startup. Therefore, to fix these errors, you will have to stop unnecessary programs from loading during the startup process. To do this, first check the Start > All Programs > Startup folder. If you see any unwanted programs listed here, right-click and select Delete, to remove them. Next, open the System Configuration utility by running “msconfig” from Start > Run. On the Startup tab, clear the checkboxes of the programs that you do not want to load during system startup. Select Apply and click OK to implement the changes and restart your PC.
Computer freezes due to hardware, generally occur when different hardware devices
The problems may also occur if the device driver of a particular device is erroneous. You can resolve these errors with the help of the Device Manager (Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager.) In Device Manager, locate the faulty device—depicted with a yellow triangle containing a yellow exclamation mark, right-click on it, and select properties. Here, on the Resources tab, you can manually modify the resource allocation of the conflicting device

G5 Graphics Card Freezes or begins to show lines on display

Since you are able to see your mouse pointer move, the display is refreshing so the problem is with something other than the graphics card. Generally software / OS related.

So assuming you aren't experiencing a hardware failure try the following...

Boot from the CD the computer shipped with.

Insert CD and restart the computer holding the "c" key
Your computer should boot from the CD

If so run disk utility from the CD and repair the disk as well as permissions. If there are any errors repair again.

If this is successful your computer "should" be repaired. If it is still freezing, use your CD to perform a Archive and install which should keep all your personal settings and installed software intact.

Cheers
