Any 2 cycle oil will not do for an air cooled 2 stroke.
Granted I am not saying that buget 2 cycle oil will cause an imeadiate blow up. But you will get more carbon build up, less protection , higher wear rates. Increased servicing costs.
You need oil specified for air cooled 2 strokes. Marine spec oil is very high quality. But it is not really made for air cooled motors.
Stihl used to get their oil made by Castrol. Not anymore. I don't know the reason for the change.
Stihl now market 3 grades of 2 stroke oil..
Three different specs
Three different levels of protection.
I only use the ultra-spec oil. Fully synthetic.
It costs a little more.
But it costs a lot less than a new chainsaw.
Mixture is 50 to 1 i.e. 100ml to 5 litres of petrol. I don't know (or care) how that is for stuck in the mud non metric countries, like America... sorry guys. I used both systems growing up. Metric is better , easier to understand 90% of the time.
In the workshop we aim for a mix between 40 to 1 and 50 to 1
Motors are nominally (in the laboratory) safe out towards 75 to 1. On modern hi spec synthetic oils.
But I would not chance it. Mix in any other problems lean mix/ poor fuel/ chronic overloading of a saw with a blunt chain etc. You have a recipe for at least accelerated cylinder wear, more probably a heat related seizure.
Stihl recommend 50:1 using Castrol 2 stroke mix
5 to 1 .till its almost smokin

IPLs (parts lists) are proprietary and not available to anyone not a Stihl dealer.

It sounds like you are running lean. Not a lean oil/gas mix but a lean Air/fuel ratio. This engine runs hot as a high performance engine. any air leaks such as crank seals, manifold gaskets or muffler gaskets can give you too much air for the fuel coming in.
Secondly from the fuel side:
Ethanol (curse it) combines with oils that have no nondispersants making a white chalky poweder in the fuel system causing less fuel to mix with air. any blockage or pin hole leak can cause less fuel to be brought into the engine thus less cooling and lubricating.
Your carburetor and fuel filter need to be serviced and adjusted correctly or they will affect the mix.
When done the engine should run no faster than 13,000 rpm top no load speed.
This engine should idle smoothly at 2,500 with no more than 150 rpm change
if the speed is not as listed above when the rebuild is done you need to go back into the machine.
Call up a shop like www.arcolawn.comto get a EDT8 tach. it is well worth the money.
good luck
Joe

Their is a oil passage that has a plastic plug in it by the muffler. It might be gone like mine is.
