Toshiba #62HM95

Behind my projector is a annoying sound. At 1st I thought it was the cooling fan.. The noise comes from the bulb that is being kept cool by the fan. The noise is more like a humming sound. When the projector is turned on after bout a min. or so this humming noise begins to kick in. When it is turned off Still! this humming sound wont stop till the projector is unplugged. I appreciate if anyone could give some type of solution.
THANK YOU!!!!!

My color wheel is making a humming noise. I pulled the back panel off and can feel where the noise is coming from and it is not the cooling fan.

I am wondering if this sound might be your color wheel spinning. The color wheel often makes a low humming noise as it spins. Try checking to see if this is not the source of your noise. You need the color wheel to generate the colors needed to turn the B&W picture generated by the DLP into a color picture.

Thank you,

Hi,
Yes, the problem is the color wheel. Those are not sold by toshiba alone. You have to buy the light engine from them (a lot of $$$)
I found color wheel for sale on eBay. Just type "toshiba color wheel and you will see them there. They are little wider then the original buy fit perfect and seem to last much longer too.

The color wheels are abailable on eBay. They are not original but are new and 100% compatable. Also, cost much less then a light engine:)

I am having the same problem. I am getting a screaching noise (bad bearings) coming from some spinning part in the TV. I too took the back of, used pressured air to blow out any dust off the fan closes to the light...but it seems to be fin and is not the source of the noice. I have a feeling it is the color wheel but I am unsure on how to determine this. I will try changing the color to B&W to see if this will help identify the problem. Is it possible to only replace the color wheel if this is the problem or do I have to replace the entire light engine?

When TV on we hear aloud noise and it will continue for several minutes after the TV is turned off. Any help, thanks

sounds like a fan issue which continues to run to cool down the set after you turn it off. Squealing is usually the sound which is heard and it can also be a roaring sound depending on how bad the fans bearing is.

It makes a wierd noise

The bulb housing has come loose...

When the bulb heats up & cools in normal use, the housing will contract and become loose.

Unplug and re-seat the bulb and housing ...

Another possibility: If the replaced bulb shattered in the projector, there may be debris in the fan... use compressed air ($8/can RadioShack) to clean out (make sure the projector / bulb are cool before using compressed air.

Hope this helps!

My projector makes a really annoying noise

It is also possible that the bearing is going bad on the fan. I'd look into getting a replacement fan if that's the case. It is probably cheaper than a replacement bulb that would be needed if the fan failed entirely.

Humming noise

Hello,

The light enigine shouldn't be that difficult to replace if you have a decent amount of time and are moderately mechanically inclined. You can order the original Toshiba replacement light engine for this model (62HM95) from a major Toshiba parts distributor at the link below:

Simutaneous clanking and dimming

Hello Miggs,

This sounds like a color wheel or cooling fan issue. I would take the set back and have them check the color wheel and fan assemblies.

I hope this helps
