When I received notification from my printer that the light cyan cartridge needed to be replaced, I did so. However after closing the printer back up the HP9000 is still saying to replace the ink cartridge. I removed the new cartridge and re-inserted it multiple times, only to have the same thing happen. Is this something faulty on the printer's end or does it have something to do with the specific cartridge?

You will need to clean the contacts on the cartridge & the printer.
Also check & clean the interface ribbon ( the white tap connected to the cartridge carriage.
Try this first.
Just a few ques.

you need to print only in black if that is all the ink you have, and also you need to remove the color cartridge as it still registers in the printer as able to be used, although it is empty or near so. Did you remove the tape over the print head fron the new ink cartridge? Do a print head alignment, or use the toolbox icon to tell the printer that you just replaced the cartridge. Some HP models chip the ink cartridges so even a refill wont register as a full tank and the printer wont print. chip needs to be reset (difficult) or just replaced with a new cartridge.

SOURCE: my HP 6500 on install will recognize Cyan ink
Solution:
1. Try to determine whether the catridge is at fault. How so? Switch the Magenta with the Cyan catridge. Press OK.
2. If system indicates that the Magenta is not installed, you will know that the Cyan that you put there is at fault.
3. Touch the 9 mm. hole where you can see the sponge. Does the Cyan color transfer to your finger? If not, the catridge is empty or dried up. Replace or refill.
4. If the ink is normal, then use some toilet tissue to wipe the gold contact points clean. If this fails to solve your problem, take it to your dealer and ask for a replacement (if it fails to work in their machine).
5. If this fails, then the problem is within your HP 6500. You need a technician.
