I would remove the battery, etc, and then disassemble the keyboard. I would bet the ribbon cable connection from the keyboard/mouse pad is loose or gummed up. The symptoms are of a poor connection causing 'misfire' of the nerves.... Remove the keyboard, clean the ribbon connector, and re-assemble.
Testimonial: "Thank you Tom. what your saying does make sense because I had to take it in for other problems a month ago. LOL I'll have to look for a diagram list to see what your talking about. I think I can do it, I put a new memory card in my old desk top and didn't have a diagram sheet, again thank you very much"

Press Fn + Numlock. You have the number lock on, but laptops don't have a number pad. So it re-assigns these keys to overlay some existing ones. Once your number lock is turned off you should be ok.

you would need to get all the drivers for your laptop from the IBM website and install all of them. If you cant find them or need further help please post back and let me know.
SOURCE: I am having difficulty obtaining
Base System Device drivers are usually installed by what the manufacturer calls "Chipset" drivers. If you are running Windows XP, there is an Intel Chipset driver available at the Lenovo Support Page for your model. If you are running an Operating System other than Windows XP, I would go to the above page and compare the drivers listed there with what you are seeing in Device Manager. Install the ones that are missing. Hope this helps!
Follow the steps given below to refresh USB ports. If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response Thanks, Joe
1. Right-click My Computer icon on the desktop, and then select Properties.
2. Click the Hardware tab.
3. Click the Device Manager button.
4. Click the plus (+) sign to the left of Universal Serial Bus controllers.
5. Right-click the device listed under Universal Serial Bus controller and select Uninstall.
6. Click OK to confirm the removal of the device.
Please note, repeat Steps 5 and 6 until all the devices under Universal Serial Bus Controller are removed.
7. Shut down the computer.
CAUTION: Ensure that the Shut Down option is selected, instead of the Restart option.
8. Wait for 5 seconds and then restart the computer. When the computer restarts, a "Windows has detected new or added hardware" message window will open.
The above steps will refresh the USB ports.
Now connect the USB devices like mouse, video camera, your external usb hard disk...usb hubs...whatever you like and the drivers should install automatically.
Tip: It is always recommended to connect the main usb devices at the rear end usb port, as they require more power to initiate.
