Brother HL 1240 - page runs through printer, nothing prints

Sound like your drum is gone. I just had to put mine to it's grave. Drum cost more then the printer is worth!

1) If the LARGE BLUE BUTTON is blinking:
Data remaining in memory
There is remaining print data in the printer memory. If the Ready LED is blinking for
a long time and nothing has printed, press the Go button to print the remaining data
in the memory.
2) If the TONER LED is blinking:
Toner low
Indicates that the toner cartridge is nearly empty. Buy a new toner cartridge and have
it ready for when Toner life end is indicated.
The Toner LED will turn on for 2 seconds and off for 3 seconds.
3) If the DRUM LED is blinking:
Drum life end soon
The drum unit is near the end of its life. We recommend that you get a new drum unit
to replace the current one. See Replacing the drum unit on page 69.
The Drum LED will turn on for 2 seconds and off for 3 seconds.
4) If the RED ERROR LED is blinking:
Front cover is open
Close the front cover of the printer.
Fuser cover is open
Close the fuser cover located behind the back cover of the printer.
Paper jam
Clear the paper jam. See Paper jams and how to clear them on page 85. If the printer
does not start printing, press the Go button.
Memory full
The printer memory is full and the printer cannot print full pages of a document.
Print overrun
A print overrun occurred and the printer cannot print full pages of a document.

Sounds like the toner cart. has toner packed at one end and possibly the drum cartridge is dirty. Remove both from the printer, separate the 2 and vacuum the drum cart. - them blow it clean. Run the drum wire cleaner (purple/blue tab on front edge of drum cart.) back & forth a number of times. Blow out the inside of the printer to get out toner dust. Reinstall toner back into drum cart, then hold GO/Control button down until all lights are on, let go, reinstall toner&drum back into printer, close door. Power down - then back on. That should do it. Worst case, you'll have to replace the drum unit.

red alarm light is on and printer is not printing

The inside could be dirty, blowing it out could help, but first try taking out the toner and drum and cleaning the corona by running the blue tab near the front back and forth about 20 times and then blow out that area with a can of air. If you can see the lines on the drum, you may need a new drum.

Could be a defective drum, but do the reset first, Open the front door and hold the go button until the lights flash and it will be reset. after that just shake the toner and hope for the best...

Time to think about replacing the image drum unit. Excess toner is not being cleaned off properly and is winding up on your printed pages. The drum unit is separate from the toner cartridge, and you normally replace the toner cartridges several times before needing a drum. Replacements are available from many online sources and at office supply stores. Generic replacements run around $50 and the original part is around $100.

OK figured out the sequence to resolve this error:

power off unit
unplug power cable for 1 minute
reset the power cable
open front door
press and hold the reset button under the lights
turn the power on
printer should then be reset

change the drum

Sounds to me like the toner - that is the toner cartridge has the wrong toner in it. The drum should be OK - clean it up first and then use a genuine toner cartridge OR you can buy our refill kit on eBay - search for Brother HL2040 - michellem6123
