Our dryer is still producing heat but it appears that the motor is unable to spin the cylinder. Even with only 2 wet tshirts it barely spins. The belt still appears to be attached and in good working condition. Any ideas on parts needed or cost of repair?
SOURCE: Kenmore HE4t Dryer - no heat
The usual suspect for a Kenmore HE that runs, but doesn't heat is a thermal cut-out or the thermal fuse. Although they are a bit more resilient, in some cases the heating element itself could be bad. The way to check: 1. UNPLUG THE DRYER, FIRST. 2. Remove the bottom kick plate on the front of the dryer. 3. Remove the blower fan cover directly under the lint screen. There should be a couple of 1/4" screws holding it on. 4. Directly behind the blower fan cover on top of the blower fan housing are two components. One is the operating thermostat, and the white one is a thermal fuse. The fuse is a one-shot fuse that must be replaced if it is bad. 5. To the right is the heating element housing. There are two additional components mounted on the side of the element housing. The component furthest to the back is the thermal fuse. The one one closest to you is the hi-limit thermostat. 6. Check the continuity of thermal fuse and the thermal cut-out. They both should read a short. Additionally, check the resistance of the the heating element. The element should read something low (less than 20 ohms). 7. If the thermal fuse reads open, replace it. If the thermal cut-out is bad, replace the hi-limit thermostat with it. They are usually sold as a set. If the heating element is bad, you will need to disconnect all electrical leads and remove one 1/4" screw holding the element housing to the bottom casing. Pull the entire element housing from the dryer. Depending on model, sometimes the element slide out of the housing, sometimes you will need to remove a few screws to open it up. I hope this helps you.

For a Gas Dryer:
1: Check if the igniter glows, if the igniter glows for a short time, followed by a distinct "click" then shuts off, you most likely have to replace the valve coils.
2: If the igniter does not glow at all, you will need to check some electrical components with an electrical meter. (or "ohm meter"..)
First check the thermal fuse, typically mounted either on the blower housing, (for dryers with a bottom lint trap) or on the rear bulkhead, (dryers with a lint screen on top). If the fuse reads OL or infinite resistance, (open fuse) replace it and check for clear venting and proper airflow at your exhaust duct. If your venting is unrestricted, also replace the operating thermostat or thermistor, whichever your dryer has.
If the fuse checks ok, then check the the igniter by disconnecting the in-line wire harness from the igniter and reading across the two pins in the harness, if you read infinite resistance, replace the igniter.
If the igniter checks ok, read across the radiant sensor mounted on the side of the burn tube, you must remove at least one of the wires from the terminals for a correct reading, again, if infinite resistance, replace.
If this doesn't help you may be looking at some electrical issues in the temp select switch, etc. Hope this helps.

kenmore dryers are the easiest dryers to work on. unplug! remove 2 screws @lint screen top. insert screrwdriver under top @ each end and pop top up. disconect wires to door panel. remove 2 5/16 screws at each end inside. lift front door panel up and out.( the bottom of the panel is held by spring clips. replace belt if broke. remove drum if not and check rollers. note: belt route at idler pulley.

Hi, you access the belt from the front. I can't bring up the model number you gave but I'll assume some things. A panel may be below the door, if so look for 2 latches holding it shut, a flat head screwdriver gently inserted will release the latches. If you have a solid front panel except for the door... If your lint filter is on the top, remove the filter, remove 2 screws under the filter door, lift the top and tilt it back. Now you can see 2 hex screws, one on the right top corner and the other on the left, remove, unplug the door switch wires and lift the whole front panel off. If your lint filter is inside the door, skip the 2 screw part and pop the top panel off.
