This is one of two problems, Bad capacitors in the power supply or your Y Sustain board has failed, I would go for the first, take the back off your tv and look for swollen or domed shaped capacitors on the power supply, They may also leak a brown liquid like substance.
Replace all that you can see and this should cure the fault.
SOURCE: 42 in LG LCD TV turns off by itself
Found that TV started switching off by itself. Would try to come on..green light blinked for 2-3 seconds, tv came on (with picture and sound) for 1 or 2 seconds and then it would turn itself off. Found that the issue is with one channel only. If you are facing this issue....try quickly changing the channel the moment it comes on. You can do it either with remote or with the TV buttons directly. also in the same logic, if this is still happening, try changing the source to another (rgb-pc, av1, av2 etc). Basically change it from whatever input it is on currently, if changing the channels does not work. My symptom was that the tv made a loud 'TIK' 'TAK' sound which is louder than normal.
SOURCE: 8 month old Symphonic 20 inch lcd tv turns off itself every 3-5 seconds
these sets that shut down or turn themselves off after a few seconds usally have a bad backlite board in them. look closely at the screen and see if one section looks darker than the rest of the screen (top middle or bottom - top seems most common in my cases). some times if you put the tv on an unused input you can see the variation of light level on the screen, but don't get confussed by looking at the screen from too great of an angle. thanks ......techman 580-243-8025
