Question about Cobra 148 GTL 120-Channels Base CB Radio
All lights come on when you press the mike except the tx light could the buld be out or its not transmitting
Posted by Anonymous on
When you are not talking the light should be an aqua / green color. When you transmit it should turn red. if you see two red lights your antenna is out of match. As for your radio not get out you have to get a friend to listen on another radio and he will tell you if its working or not.

Your post of 2 lights; 1 is to indicate that you are transmitting when keying the mic is normal. The 2nd indicating an antenna warning (or SWR) should be corrected. You are right in starting with the coaxial cable which of course would include the PL259 connector. Verify that there are no breaks, over-bended loop, exposed ground/shield and that the solder of the center wire as well as the braided shield/ground is in order.
If it is a mobile setup, further verify that the antenna mount (except when magnetic) is properly grounded to the body of the vehicle and free from rust/corrosion. In some instances, it is the antenna itself that need checking or even possibly replacement.
Alternately, if the needle doesn't swing to the right side of the meter when the mic is keyed, it is possible that your finals (2SC1306) needs replacement.
Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.

if the red ant light comes on this means that you have antenna trouble either in the antenna itself or the coax but this should not have anything to do with the radio not transmitting. it sounds to me that you have a bad audio chip or a bad power output transistor. in either case you should really take it to a cb shop and let the professionals solve your problem, good luck!!

1 why would you change the finals?? Have you checked you antenna? How are your SWR's? Crappy antenna's cause a lot of problems.
Use an external meter to see what the SWR is, and see what the output is PEP. If its low, then there is something wrong. If it is High, change the mic and turn up the dynamic all the way.
Next. Have you been messing around in there?? Tryin to get more wattage? You turned VR4? If you thought you were turning it up by turning it all the way to the right, you turned it all the way down. Turn it all the way to the left.
