"Fisher washer stays on clen for over 3 hours" ???
I think you mean the "Dishwasher stays in the clean cycle for over 3 hours", right? First question is "What cycle?" If it's the Pots and Pans cycle, or "Pro-wash cycle" , or "Normal cycle with extra wash heat or sani-rinse options selected, then yes, this is normal! A Normal cycle (without added heat) will take about 2 hours. And a short or quick or 1-hour cycle will take less.
make sure that your filter in the bottom is clean and if you are using the automatic wash cycle, it will wash until the water is clean. Sometimes it will take an hour, sometimes it will take close to 2 depending upon the level of dirty dishes in the dishwasher. And don't rinse! They work better on dirty dishes.
Wash time is determined by the cycle you select, the incoming water temperature and the installation location. The new machines will heat the water to a predetermined temperature and it takes roughly 1 minute for each degree of rise, If the incoming water is at 120 deg and the wash cycle wants 165 than it will take 45 minutes just for that one cycle to complete, Factor in an outside wall with poor insulation or lower water temperature and it could take even longer. GE Prifile dishwashers have a valve called a "Piston" and an "O" -Ring under the screen that become degraded over time. The part is around $10 and it takes about an hour to do the repair. You can do this yourself if you are handy and have some simple tools. You can go to the GE website and get a free owners manual.
