Hi, it's Jeremy from Crucial Vacuum.

There are a few potential solutions you should try. First, check your vacuums brushroll. It may simply be jammed and if so just remove any debris that is preventing it from spinning. If that does not work the issue may be related to your brushroll bearings. Try removing the brushroll assembly and clean all the debris from the brushroll bearing.
If this does not work, the issue may be related to your vacuums belt. Over time the belt can become stretched out, broken, or simply fall off. If the issue is related to your belt, you will need to purchase a replacement belt.

SOURCE: roller brush won't spin (bissel 6390/3910 series)

I just fixed mine. It took me all of 10 minutes. Pull the brush out. Stand the brush on end on the edge of your study work bench/table top. while holding the brush vertical( on end) take a small phillips screwdriver and tap using a hammer on the metal pin you see in the middle of the brush. Keep tamping and the whole assembly will come apart. What you will have then is a long metal shaft, 2 bearings(they are acutally skateboard wheel bearings same number same make). Clean the gobbed up hair with a razor blade and then reassemble by tapping back together. The bearing wont be worn out because they are way too tough for a vaccum. We used ride down hills on them! a ten minute fix wow and you wont have to drive to vacuum shop and spend $$ and time

I have a Kenmore canister vacuum. The problem is the the attachment called Pet Powermate doesn't spin very well

It isn’t the belt. Hair builds up in other places besides the brush. The device is made to come apart. Take it apart an clean out both ends on the shaft of roller brush. Remove tangled hair on the shaft and the brushes.

Why did the agitator stop?

Bryan,
Most of the time, when a brush stops, you either have a broken belt or there is something wrong with the brush. If the brush spins very freely when you try spinning it by hand, you have a broken belt.

Brush won`t spin on brand new vacuum

Hi! Many of our vacuums include a brushroll shut-off feature that needs to be activated in order for the brushes to spin. The brushroll shut-off pedal is usually located on the right side of the cleaner on the hood. Your instruction manual will show you exactly where your brushroll shut off pedal/button is located if your vacuum has this feature. Also, on many models the brushes will not spin when locked in the upright position. The handle must be reclined for the brushes to spin. Hope this helps!

Troubleshooting

Hi Janet. Thank you for asking this question. Your vacuum wasn't designed with a brush on/off switch so having the brush continually spin is normal for your vacuum.

The brushes won't spin. I put new brushes on and it still doesn't spin.

Usually when the brushes won't turn it is due to a bad turbine. Insert a screwdriver into the square hole that the pin on the brush fits into, and see if it turns. If it is seized up, the turbine assembly will need to be replaced.

Thr brushes are not spinning and it smells

That is your belt burning, turn the vacuum upside down and make sure your brush is spinning freely. Something may be wedged in your brush.

I have a Kenmore upright beltless that suddenly, the brush stopped spinning. Do you have an answer for this?

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. On the Kenmore upright the belt is broken and needs replacing and you can take it to Sears / Kenmore or a local vac dealer and they can change it for you or you can attempt to do it yourself, usually it just takes a screwdriver and either a flat or a geared belt for less than $10.00 to $15.00 is an estimate.
