You need to replace the thermocouple. It unscrews from the thermostat on one end, and the other one hooks in a bracket. After replacment make sure the thermocouple bulb is in the pilot flame.

The Reliance 606 has an enclosed thermal couple. Before you try taking that assembly apart take a wire brush to the bottom opening directly under the burner. There is a metal filter on the very bottom of the water heater. It could be that the filter has gotten filled with dust or animal hair. It took a serviceman 2 days to figure this out for me. The water heater has to have good airflow through that filter to work well.

If you still have your owner's manual, you will need to call the manufacturer. They will need the model # & serial #. This particular brand has a fine mesh filter screen on the bottom (below the burner) that gets clogged and causes irregular pilot outages. They have a recall in which they will send you a new burner assembly with a reset switch built-in to it. They will send it to you for free, but you will need to hire your local propane co (at your expense) to install it and also clean the filter while they have the burner assembly out. Good luck.
