Taking a picture with point-and-shoots are so simple as to be dull. Not so much with a SLR at times. There may be a couple of things going on here, first thing is your camera only has the ability to shoot so fast, as its internal buffer takes time to capture and write to that zone, then it takes time to transfer to the memory card. Secondly, the memory card itself, in your case an sd if I have that correct, only writes so fast, and also has to buffer the data. You can buy a camera based on its ability to write very fast data, and you can buy very expensive memory cards that write very fast, but even the quickest camera bodies and cards all have a limitation. You'll have to wait while the writing of image data is fulfilled. If on the other hand it won't take a picture even after moments or a full minute goes by, then you have an internal problem, or bad connections, or a bad pin on the card or the card connection port. You can pull the card out, examine both the card and the port with a magnifying glass, or try another card. It can cost upwards of a $100-$200 to repair for most models in your camera's class.

No, the so called 'live view' ( seeing pictures in real time on your LCD monitor ) is available only on the latest models that are coming out now ( Canon D40 and Nikon D3 and D300 have this feature ).
SOURCE: Auto focus does not work in creative modes
That is a custom function of the camera that can be change back to default with ease. While in one of the creative zones press the menu button and navigate to the 5th and final tab on the top right.
This is the Setup menu 2. In this menu, select “Custom Functions (C. Fn)” . This will open a submenu of numbered options. Select #04 and set it to 0: the default AF/AE lock on a half depress of the shutter.
That should get your camera back to the expected auto focus with the shutter button.
SOURCE: date/time issue on Canon EOS 350D
I was wondering the same when I first got my EOS. Learned later that the digital pictures do not have date/time stamp on the front of the photos like film cameras' photos. Details of digital photos are stored digitally in each image file's EXIF.
If you want to print photos showing the date/time, some software including Zoombrowser EX can do that. In Zoombrowser, select the photos you want to print. In Step 2 (Printer & Layout Settings), in the bottom left, you can choose Date and/or Time and even the colour of the font.

Read this!!!
The guy at tech support listened and then told me that the lens contacts were dirty and to get a pencil with an eraser on the end, just a regular old pencil with a red rubber eraser. Detach the lens from the camera, hold it so that the lens’ gold contacts are pointing down and lightly erase their exposed surface, cleaning them of any hand oil that might have gotten on them.
Do the same thing with the gold contacts inside the camera body. This is a bit harder but it’s doable: just hold camera so lens opening points down so no gunk falls in. Erase lightly. I used a lens cloth and dabbed at the contacts rather than blow them so as not to blow the erasings inside the camera.
I did this to each of my three lenses just to be sure. Lo and behold, it worked good luck have a nice day!!! :) :) :)
