The positive cable will connect to your starter and alternator. The negative connects to an engine ground. For more info check out - www.techcapri.com

SOURCE: there is a wire attached

the car started and run before? if so, bypass the wire with a wire connection kit from autozone or advance auto,it may be a metal fuse link for an added stereo,or another application. it may even be a fuseable link. if so take it off, then go to parts place and do not be afraid to ask questions!you may have to buy an application to car to make it run safely.so what!i would sleep better knowing i did not give you wrong advice.disconnect the application, take it to autozone, advance auto, nappa. and find out what the application is. you cannot go wrong by doing that, don't be afraid to ask questions! if i could see it, i would be able to tell you what to do and how. but i can't thank you for choosing fixya.com

Convert battery cables from top post to side mount replacement ends?

If all you are doing is changing to a side post battery, just connect all the positive cables from the old pos post to the new pos holder and all the neg ones to the new neg holder. If you've already cut them all off and not sure where each wire goes, all the reds are positive, all the blacks are neg. To make sure use your continuity meter to test. Connect one meter lead to any good clean metal part on the car and test between each black wire in turn, the neg ones will show a circuit, the pos ones will not.

My negative cable that goes from the starter to the battery broke, how do I replace this cable? Any help would be appreciated

they sell generic cables at parts stores, however for that application i like to use a cable which is made specially for the car, so a dealer is the place to get it. otherwise you have to cut the heavy cable and make a crimped mechanical connection between the connector lug and the cable which inevitably leads to corrosion eating the connection out from the inside. from time to time you see these sold on eBay.

generally the negative cable leaves the battery and bolts to vehicle ground, not the starter. the positive cable leaves the battery and bolts to the starter. make absolutely sure you have the right cable in mind before you buy. if it is the positive cable, disconnect the negative cable before you begin to hook up the positive cable to avoid sparks and serendipitous welding. just unbolts at each end, may be some guides to follow in order keep the cable from moving around.

after the swap do not be surprised to find your anti-theft radio no longer works, you will need to contact a dealer with proof of ownership to get a code.

Have a delcotron alternator ,what to know where no.1 terminal and no.2terminal wire goes it is on my 1946 cj2a jeep my amp hand does not show a charge had alternator checked out and is ok

  • Use a wrench to remove the negative and positive battery cables: They are clearly labeled "+" and "-." Always remove the negative cable first, as this isolates the power to the metal parts of your car. Tuck the cables away from the battery as you don't want them to accidentally touch a battery terminal when you're wiring your alternator.

  • 3

Locate the alternator terminals. There are two: one marked "live," "pos" or "+" and the other marked "neg," "field" or "-."

  • 4

Locate the two cables. The positive (red) cable goes to your battery via a wire loom or harness. The negative (black) cable attaches to a metal part of your car.

  • 5

Check how the cables attach to the alternator terminals. Some connect using eyelets that hook over the terminal and tighten with a bolt; others connect by inserting the wire under the terminal and tightening a bolt.

  • 6

Loosen the two bolts using a suitable-sized wrench or, if the cables connect using eyelets, remove the bolts.

  • 7

Insert the exposed end of the negative (black) cable under the loosened bolt on the negative terminal of the alternator, then tighten the bolt. If the cable has an eyelet, hook it over the terminal and screw the bolt back in place and tighten using a wrench.

  • 8

Insert the exposed end of the positive (red) cable under the loosened bolt on the positive terminal of the alternator, then tighten the bolt. If the cable has an eyelet, hook it over the terminal and screw the bolt back in place and tighten using a wrench.

  • 9

Replace the positive battery cable on the positive battery terminal using a wrench. Replace the negative battery cable on the negative battery terminal.

Replace positive battery cable 97 montero

A lot of cars have two cables on the positive post.
Do you need to replace the cables or is the battery post clamp broken. You can buy a replacement post clamp if you have the type of cables that are bolted to the clamp.
If you need the cable, a oem replacement from your dealer parts counter will match. You can get after market replacements, just look for one that matches your original as close as possible. The parts counter guy should be able to help.

1995 olds 88 positive battery cable stuck together

    Crazyshaws:

Normally the bolt that tightens the clamp that fits down over the positive post of the battery can be removed from the cable. What happens on older cars is the bolt get all fouled up and corroded. This happened recently to me on my 94 F150. What I did was to cut the bolt in the middle with a hacksaw, then went to the auto parts store and bought a new bolt & nut for the cable and installed it. They even have packages of 2 nuts and bolts right near where the batteries are sold.

Hope this helps Good luck Loringh PS Please leave a rating if appropriate Thks
