Hi Sally, let me try to help you. The category I am seeing is Amana 30" self-cleaning range. You are having clock setting issues. Your display is actually reading "SAB". This is an indication of a mode of operation rather than an error code. The following link explains:

Sabbath Mode is a feature that allows the consumer to disable certain features of the range in order to honor the sabbath. Usually this disables the oven, but allows the consumer to still use the surface burners. You cannot defeat it by unplugging the range or turning off the breaker either. You will either have to wait 72 hours for the mode to clear, or figure out how to turn it off.

Somewhere in the owner/operator's manual is a section that refers to "Sabbath Mode". Since all ranges differ in features and operator, you need to refer to the operation section of your owner's manual to find out how to shut the feature off.

If the model number you listed this question under is correct, you need to press and hold the CLOCK button for 3 seconds to clear the Sabbath Mode. "Sab" will flash for about 5 seconds, then return to normal display.

Could be the fuse in the back turn off the power and trace the wiring with a multimeter, when you stop getting continuity there is the fuse.

Thanks for posting to Fixya I will be helping you today. You have posted that you have a Kenmore Elite 44173 electric cooktop with a problem. However, you also mention your are having trouble with the oven not working. This post maybe categorized wrong but I will try to answer you question for both a range and oven control.

Sometimes on a cooktop customers will lockout the controls on accident while cleaning. Usually there is a button on the control that you hold for 4 seconds +/- and there is a little simbol of a padlock next to it or you might have to check the owners manual.

Lastly, Ranges may also have a lock out feature that the customer must press 4 seconds too unlock. On select models controls may also be locked out by putting their oven into sabbath mode. Usually the display will indicate a "SAB" to alert that this feature has been set.

*In general the above instructions should help if your unit is locked out.

I think you have entered "Sabbath Mode" which blanks the display ... check your owners manual to see how to exit this mode.

try pressing and holding the clock tab on the erc for 5 secs
this will usually cause the sab to flash 3-4 times and then retrun to normal operation mode

Hi, interesting. I have the same units on my GasHob and my problems are exactly reverse. To turn the burners on it takes about 15 clicks and with some luck you'll get gas! Sorry, wished I could help.
