My epson dot matrix printer keeps pausing and beeping

I have epson lq-2180 printer with the following problem: Paper out & pause indicator is continously on when I try to print. The paper is rolling when I push pause button.

This is a feature provided by the manufacture to protect the print head overheat for small dot matrix printers. Here giving printer head connection diagram, the last two row have temperature sensing (thermister) connection pin 1 to 1. If the thermister is faulty in the print head the printer will auto pause abnormally. Check the printer with compatible / EPSON recommended print head. These kind of small printer only for POS printing not for continues printing.

There is an LCD Message and panel Light Status and a beep pattern which lights are flashing? Paper out? Pause? Tear Off/Set? Top Of Form/Set? Front? Rear? Turn off printer 4 five min then back on..what happens? error 16 means an unknown printer error.. with a dot matrix printer print head failure can cause different errors.

its may be heaving problem with the control panel clean replace the buttons or replace the control panel and check it ................

I HAVE CUSTOME SIZE OF PAPER WHICH IS NOT AVILABLE IN THE PRINTER LIST .WHEN I DEEL WITH WINDOS XP
BUT WHEN DEEL WIHTH WINDOS 98 ITS OK

NO I DONT HAVE WINDOS 98 . MY QUESTION HOW I CAN ADJUST PAPER TO CUSTOM SIZE

Probably needs a good cleaning - with a vaccuum and some compressed air.

Dot matrix (impact) printers usually have a couple of optical sensors - disks with holes in them - to let the printer know where the head is, how fast it's moving, if it jams, etc.

If there is too much dust, dirt, or bits of paper interfering with the beam of light passing through the rotating disks, most printers will stop and indicate some sort of error, rather than force the motor - which may damage the plastic teeth on the gears.
